Hypothetically speaking, lets say that I got into say 2-7 schools this application cycle and that I need to decide which one to go to. Lets also say that location matters but the tuition matters even more so. Can you make your decision based on how much scholarship/grants the institutions are willing to shell out for you? Or do you not have access to that kind of information when you are making the decision?

I am horrified of scenarios like this. What if I chose the cheapest school even though it was say my 4th choice out of all the schools I've gotten into. But then say if I had chosen my 2nd choice school, they would have given me more than enough grant/scholarship to cover the tuition differences between those two schools but I wouldn't have known since I would have given up my seat at that school by the time I was told of the scholarship. Do you think this can happen?

Thank you

You will get financial aid info before you need to pick schools. Hold onto acceptances until you get this info.

but from a couple acceptances I have heard so far this year, it seems like they only give you like two weeks to decide,,, does that mean they got their financial information already?

You can hold onto multiple acceptances until May15th. Just tell them all yes at this point. It might get a little costly with numerous deposits, but these are typically 100% refundable until May15th. Each school should indicate if they require a deposit and under what terms can the deposit be refunded. You usually fill out the financial aid info in January and schools will inform you of your financial aid package in mid-march or early April. Decide at that time what the best situation is for you, and notify the remainder of the schools that you are withdrawing your acceptance. This is standard procedure, no worries.

Do exactly this. If any of the schools still haven't given you the info close to the deadline even though you've filled out anything, give them some "gentle" reminders you need your financial aid info before May 15th. Schools tend to be pretty good about this though.
