I have neuroanatomy this upcoming semester. While I can learn well from just course notes, I greatly prefer supplementation with texts. I am deciding between two neuro texts and was wondering which is preferred. The two are:

Nolte - The Human Brain: An Introduction To Its Functional Anatomy
http://www.amazon.com/The-Human-Bra...&qid=1355445566&sr=8-1&keywords=9780323041317

Blumenfeld - Neuroanatomy Through Clinical Cases
http://www.amazon.com/Neuroanatomy-...&keywords=neuroanatomy+through+clinical+cases

Nolte is recommended for my class, but I have heard good things about Blumenfeld. Is one clearer or more relevant long-term?

nolte was recommended for my class as well, but I heard it's pretty crappy. I would go with the clinical cases one. Get Haine's neuroanatomy as well.

Blumenfeld is one of the best texts I've ever read for any class. Go with Blumenfeld -- absolutely amazing! Just read the chapters corresponding to what your lectures cover. I ended up skipping 3 or 4 chapters because they weren't covered in detail in class. And DO the clinical cases at the end of each chapter -- they're a LOT of fun and really reinforce what you just learned. Best of luck!

i agree with you. i remember reading through blumenfeld and things that didn't make sense in anatomy suddenly clicked because of a diagram or one simple line in the text. it happened so many times, i started to think i should've used this text + netter's instead of moore's. might be attributed to solidified knowledge though, but anyway, blumenfeld is definitely a good text. might be overkill to read the whole thing.
