Got accepted to both programs & Mercer (Atlanta) need to send the Deposit today ! yikes 😕

SDNers, If you accepted/ attend Temple or Duquesne Weekend - I would love your Objective thoughts. THANKS

1) The quality of the education / classes ?
2) Which school graduate is more likely to get a John Hopkins residency etc. , or good research position
3) If tuition cost is irrelevant, where would you go & why ?
--------

The big Pros/Cons that I see

PROS (Duq Weekend)
- 5 days open for Pharm job
- 30 student class size

CONS (Duq Weekend)
- Ability to learn much in 2 day a week schedule & recall for Naplex
- Lack of student interaction since most are only on campus 2days.
- Lack of many jobs in the area / Weather /

PROS (Temple)
- Well established program
- I like Philly's transportation, hospital & pharmaceutical jobs access

CONS (Temple)
- Old resources / labs
- 100+ Class size

So the Duquesne program only meets on weekends? That's interesting. Personally, it would be a deal breaker for me though. I don't see how cramming a week's worth of material into 2 days wouldn't have a negative impact. It's a brand new program too, so there's no way of knowing if this type of scheduling is going to hurt their students or not. I'd steer clear.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, the Duquesne program is fairly new but accredited & taught by same faculty as their traditional week program. Classes only on the weekends.

Did you know of anyone that goes to Temple / Mercer / Duquesne ?

Go to Duquesne! I'm waiting to hear back after my Temple interview! Actually, that's a bit mean. Philly is a way better city than Pittsburgh. I know I wouldn't have much trouble making that decision, but the weekend aspect is potentially perfect for some people.

thanks. Apart from the weekend aspect, why would you pick Duq ?

What do you want to do with your life?

If you do Duq weekend, I think it might put you at a disadvantage for a residency/fellowship, because of the lack of interaction. You will be less likely to be involved in student organizations and therefore less likely to have leadership positions. Also not sure how feasible it would be to get involved in research in such a program.

I know of a guy who got into a residency at Johns Hopkins this year, and he has lots of SSHP involvement and a lot of research (I believe with publications), so these things are important.

My pharmacy manager went to Duquesne. Seems like she liked it well enough. Expensive program though.

Otherwise, go for it if you really want to go to school weekends only.

I got accepted to Duq weekend program and will be attending. I think it all depends on many things... Just because you will be in class on weekends only does not mean you will be excluded from student organizations or residensies... My friend is in the program now and really likes it. You can get involved in research during the week, have a part-time job, and have time to get involved with student organizations... It's all possible, you just have to manage your time right... I'm a little nervous for that too, but I hope it will all work out...

bacillus1 Thanks for the info. Did your manager go to the weekend program ?

The cost of Duq is major negative too.

I was just joking, really. The idea of a weekend program sounds strange to me, but perhaps it would be just what you're looking for. And besides, I got my acceptance email from Temple today, so you should enroll wherever suits you best!

@Liebensaft - Congrats on your Temple acceptance.
Maybe I'll see you guys there.
