so... im currently on 5 waitlists (no acceptances).

3 of these schools, if i get off of the WL, i would drop anything i have planned to attend their school. i loved them.

the other 2 schools, im feeling meh-ish about it. these are also the 2 schools that asked me to fill out something if id like to remain on their wl.

the thing is, ive been warned from people that if i get an offer from an MD school this year but i didnt like the school, so i withdraw and reapply in the future, then the future schools i apply to will know this info and that will put me at a disadvantage (bc they'll question whether i really wanna be a doctor or if i just want to be a graduate of a certain school -- though from my perspective, it's really not as simple as that).

would it put me in the same bad position if i decide to not stay on certain wl's (where ive been told that im in the top few % already) and end up reapplying in the future?

any general thoughts on this move?? 😕

ps - at this point, im getting a feel for why i wasnt as successful this cycle as i had hoped (and everyone else expected me to be), and i feel like this is a fixable problem if i end up reapplying...

I think that if you do not think you would enjoy going to the school you are waitlisted at, then you should withdraw. This way, it will not seem as if (hopefully not) you have to reapply, you had an acceptance. Therefore, just remain on the waitlist for the three schools you are waitlisted at.

Good luck!:luck::luck::luck:

if you don't want to go to the schools, withdraw now.

Let's put aside the question of whether or not withdrawing will have some sort of effect on your chances when reapplying.

Do you really dislike these schools enough that you'd rather go through the hassle of reapplying than attend them?

Are you feeling so 'meh-ish' that if they accepted you tomorrow you wouldn't go? If yes, then drop the waitlist. But if you would go to any of those five schools, I think it behooves you to stay in the game at as many places as possible, just to raise the odds.

As far as it hurting you next year, if you withdraw from the two, it could possibly at those schools. But if you don't really want to go to them anyway, then it doesn't matter much.

I think you're nuts if you withdraw without an acceptance elsewhere. Do you really want to go through the process again (time, money, stress)? Not to mention you're not guaranteed anything the next go around either.

If you didn't get accepted to any schools, I wouldn't say you are in the position to assume that you will somehow get an acceptance to a school of your choice the next year unless you have a horrible MCAT which you could improve or have no ECs which you could also improve.

she jinxed herself with her SDN nickname "luckyducky" what the...nice way to jinx yourself. how badly can the 2 med schools be?

if you want to become a doctor, then stick with it. are u low-balling the schools because they are ranked lower?

Even then I wouldn't say that--it's not a gamble worth taking.

As for the original question, there's pretty much no way that I'm aware of that future schools would be able to tell that you were on any waitlists this year.

I feel like Location isn't the issue here, since there are three schools you would attend. The other two can't be that bad, any MD schools will get the job done. How could you possibly place more importance on where you go over getting an MD?

I would like to know as well. An MD is an MD, period. Sure, going to a top 25 or an ivy is icing on the cake, but you have to look at the bigger picture here. Getting accepted into med school is no small feat, so why would you re-do it if it turns out the acceptance is not from a top-tier school? Also, it's better to have higher odds than having to reapply again next year. What's there to guarantee that you'll get an acceptance the following year? Why did you apply to those 2 schools in the first place if you feel "meh-ish" about it?

the 5 schools that she's waitlisted at are pretty good schools: NYU, Duke, Dartmouth, UMaryland, and VCU.

I'm assuming she's not that into VCU and Maryland? those are pretty decent schools....

I'd personally stay on all the waitlists but start filling out your amcas crap. Unless I HATED the school there is no way you could pay me to go through this application crap again. One of the funny things is that you learn to love places you're at sometime. Who knows how many times I've hated a place and then I spend a lot of time there. A few years later I reminisce on the good times.

I think we all know the root of your problem in this thread. The gilmore girls avatar.
