Ok everyone I need adivce....
Here's the situation:
I am not a re-applicant this is my first time applying, but I am completing my post-bac program now since I did it to up my changes on getting in

Got into a DO school close to home so I can live with my parents and save myself some $$ while I am in medical school

Got into SGU

I guess the real question is...DO or Grenada?

I know all medical school students have their personal bias towards answering this question...are there any US allopathic grads that have experience working in hospitals...what is the truth about the reputation of DOs vs. FMG (foriegn medical grads)

any advice would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED!

it will be harder to specialize either way- SGU will be wayy more expensive but you will probably get more experience out of it (and you wont have to explain what a DO is for the rest of your life). D.O. school would be an easier way of life. The only one that can make the right decision is you

I think it probably depends which DO school you are talking about. Some of the newer provisionally accredited ones I'm not so sure about, but some of the established ones I would be fine with. There have been occasional DO's and occasional Caribbean grads at a few of the hospitals where I've worked, and all were fine. I think that people will judge you more by they quality of your doctoring and less by where you went to school. Pick the school that is best for you, taking into account strongly which one you judge will give you the better education, but also considering costs, convenience and other factors. Also, if you go the DO route you'll have some fields open to you that you won't if you go Caribbean (i.e. could still get a DO derm residency, etc.). If you like primary care and/or musculoskeletal medicine, DO school might be good, but if you are more biochemistry and research oriented, then an MD school might be better for you. If you don't think you'd do well being away from your family, that's another factor.
