Does anyone know if some schools allow you to defer acceptance for a year, and if so, which ones? I'm looking at NOVA, PCO, and IAUPR specifically.

I am graduating this May but have two prerequisites left to take during the summer. At this point, I feel pretty burnt out on school and if I would have no break at all from classes if I started optometry school right away in August. All of these schools are out of state for me, so I also feel like I need to take some time to prepare before moving to a completely new place all by myself (figure out where I want to live/find compatible roommates, figure out loans, etc.) I work part-time as a tech at an optometry office right now, and its an amazing job - every day the docs go over unique cases with me and teach me how to diagnose and treat them. I'm learning so much and I absolutely love it, and I think doing that full-time for a year would really help me out with classes once I get there, and will also help me earn a little bit of money at the same time.

Any advice/tips on how to go about this? Would I just email the admissions office and explain my situation, or is there a more formal process for deferrment? Would they hold my place in the entering class of 2016, or would I have to re-do some parts of the application, or completely apply all over again? If that's the case, would my recommendation letters carry over from my previous application, or would I have to ask my professors to submit another?

Thanks so much!

How can you be admitted without having taken all the pre-reqs??

Regarding KHE, you can have a conditional acceptance that you will finish all your pre-reqs before you actually the start the program. I myself had to finish one pre-req in Spring (my interview was in winter) before joining.

Regarding OP, sounds like you made your decision so regarding your question, you're asking a question that only the facilitators of the program would know the appropriate answer. No point in posting here because we'd just be speculating. If you want to ask them, any form of communication would be fine.

Good luck.

idk if its speculating but im pretty sure one of the schools i got accepted into had a defer option (MCPHS,PCO,Neco).

I cant remember which one but i know for certain it was an option except that you had to pay 1000 bucks or something insane like that. Im guessing if one of them has it maybe some if not all will atleast listen to you if you ask
