Does anyone know if some schools allow you to defer acceptance for a year, and if so, which ones? I'm looking at NOVA, PCO, and IAUPR specifically.
I am graduating this May but have two prerequisites left to take during the summer. At this point, I feel pretty burnt out on school and if I would have no break at all from classes if I started optometry school right away in August. All of these schools are out of state for me, so I also feel like I need to take some time to prepare before moving to a completely new place all by myself (figure out where I want to live/find compatible roommates, figure out loans, etc.) I work part-time as a tech at an optometry office right now, and its an amazing job - every day the docs go over unique cases with me and teach me how to diagnose and treat them. I'm learning so much and I absolutely love it, and I think doing that full-time for a year would really help me out with classes once I get there, and will also help me earn a little bit of money at the same time.
Any advice/tips on how to go about this? Would I just email the admissions office and explain my situation, or is there a more formal process for deferrment? Would they hold my place in the entering class of 2016, or would I have to re-do some parts of the application, or completely apply all over again? If that's the case, would my recommendation letters carry over from my previous application, or would I have to ask my professors to submit another?
Thanks so much!
