Deferred fellowship

Has anybody ever heard of deferring a fellowship? For example, if I apply this year and get a medicine fellowship for 2 years from now, is it possible to delay that fellowship an extra year without reapplying?

Has anybody ever heard of deferring a fellowship? For example, if I apply this year and get a medicine fellowship for 2 years from now, is it possible to delay that fellowship an extra year without reapplying?

Check with the program. I have heard of delaying fellowship training (ie, not doing it right after residency) but not deferring. I suppose if you have a good reason they might consider it, but they are not required to obviously.
