Hi, I'm hoping to apply to JHU's one-year MPH program.

First--I know their application requires an advanced degree or two years of related "experience." I have three years of experience working at a health care research and consulting firm -- we dealt with mainly business management and leadership topics, but also some issues of patient care. We only worked with hospitals.

Can any current/former applicants tell me if my background fits the definition of related experience?

Second--The program says it accepts GRE and GMAT scores. Interestingly, I'd really prefer to take the GMAT (even though I've heard it's a "harder" test). I have previously studied for (but not taken) the test and it just seems to make more sense to me. But, I am worried that if I don't get into JHU, then I would be a bit stuck if the other schools I apply to only accept the GRE.

Any thoughts on which test would be better to take?

Much thanks!

I went to hopkins Information session back in october and get a pretty good feel for their MPH.

It's a one year degree for those who don't want to continue their education afterwards. It seems like they have a very diverse class...a lot older MDs get it for an additional degree, and then there are younger ones with just two years of experience. I know 2 years in the peace corp counts, so I think your experience would too.

I know their MPH isn't for me, since it is completely general...I want to specialize in Epidemiology, so I'm applying to their MHS and then hopefully go for their PhD.

In terms of GRE vs. GMAT...I think GRE is much more common, but I don't think it really matters. If you think you might go to business school after the MPH, then take the GMAT. From your job experience - I think you might do better with the GMAT. I'm pretty sure other school accept GMAT as well...but if one of the school you like doesn't then go with the GRE.
