Has anyone been accepted to an AEGD or GPR only to find out their graduation may be delayed? I still have 7 month left of dental school to go, but I have that lingering fear of getting delayed and not being able to start the residency on time. If that were to happen and I had to reapply the next cycle, would that residency deny me next time for wasting their time and spot?

happened to a fifth year I know. as far as I'm concerned she had to re-do PASS.

D4's get delayed from final graduation due to not completing their clinical requirements for one thing. Since the contract for most residencies begins on 7/1, and hospitals require a diploma to credential a resident, most programs will find someone else rather than start someone off cycle. Reapplying is a crap shoot. Programs are not under any obligation to hold a seat for the next year.
My suggestion is to graduate on time. It is not too late to get everything done.

From experiences from 2 graduates at my school the past two years.

Once you feel like you might not graduate on time (by a few weeks? or 1 quarter)- you should let your program director know closer to graduation time. Tell them that you intend to attend later- and for the 2 colleagues i've known- they let them join in August and then September.

Of course it's not ideal but I'm sure you're stressed about graduating on time as it is... but it did work out for people i know. They just attended later and it was fine for their GPRs.

That's good to know. Thanks! I'll aim to graduate on time though. ;P

Talk to your program director. It happened to me when I went into my internship. My diploma states graduation date of 8/1/14. I had to have a valid state dental licence for the program I was at (to get paid) so... I was there about a month working with out pay.
