I think you could include those hours on your application, but I would try to meet the shadowing hour requirements with just your post high school hours alone to be on the safe side.
 
I also shadowed my dentist during high school but I didn't include it as an experience. However, I did bring it up in my personal statement since, like you, it gave me confidence in my decision to pursue dentistry.
 
Mention this in your personal statement, noting that it was what solidified your dental aspirations. Don’t give the hourly breakdown in your PS, though, just say that you shadowed for several weeks. You can also include this extra time in the description of your college shadowing hours if you shadowed at the same office, but I would NOT count it in your hourly total. If you have enough hours, this 72 won’t make much of a difference.
