Breathe first.

As long as your cumulative is 3.5ish or higher your fine. You do not have to retake a C and 1 c out of 100 credits will barely even budge it

You will be just fine. I don't even have a 3.5 gpa and have a C+ and a W on my transcript and got into dental school my first year trying. They look at the whole application so don't sweat one bad grade too much. Focus on improving what you can DAT score, volunteer hours, shadowing hours, and chairside assisting hours (helped me SO much in the process). Also make great friends with the dentists you shadow/work for, their letters can be what really makes you stand out compared to other applicants.

You’d be surprised how much a strong DAT (21AA+), relevant EC’s, and killer PS can go a long way when it comes to getting your foot through the door regarding interviews. I got so many C’s like no one’s business with a 3.3 cGPA and still got 5 interviews and 4 acceptances.

Do well on your upper divs and pad your CV/resume while getting more dental experience

BTW my final grade average was 79.29% and she will not round. She is a terrible person
First of all, you know that 79.29 would round to 79%, so she is doing you a favor. 😉

I've been in a similar situation (89.6%) and also was not rounded up. You just have to understand that professors have rules that they have to abide by whether they be personal or of the university. This is how they remain fair.

Redhotchili and the other contributors explained your situation well.

One "C" will not have a significant effect on your application, as long as you're a competitive applicant otherwise. That means complimenting your GPA with a strong DAT to prove your true academic capabilities to the admissions teams, among other things.

I've worked with applicants who've had "C's" and were able to get into some of the most competitive dental programs in the nation (UCLA, etc.)

Think of the application more holistically. Academics are just a part of the process.

Good luck!

Guys...I was expecting to make a B in Gen Chem 2, and I was okay with that. I knew I needed to make a 60% on the final to get a B, and I thought that was so easy.

However, during the final, the girl next to me was moved due to the suspicion of cheating, and the boy directly in front of me had a seizure!! He is okay, but the paramedics had to come and a cleaning crew came in and it was a disaster. The teacher did not give us extra time and she “doesn’t believe” in curves or extra points.

This is my first C out of 100 credit hours. I cannot believe this happened!! I am completely in awe. I was not expecting this at all. I’ve never gotten a C in my life, and it was due to circumstances that I could not control. What do I do? I know I sound dramatic, but I am so disappointed with myself. I am so sad about this.

Will I get into dental school? How can I make this better? I don’t want to retake this class. BTW my final grade average was 79.29% and she will not round. She is a terrible person.

Thank you.
You should be fine! I got a D+ in stats and still got into 5 schools.

Try not to stress. While you definitely want to try to get as high of a science GPA as you can, it is common for students to have a slip up in one or two classes. This does not mean that you will not have a chance of getting into dental school. If you are interested in a specific school, it may be worth contacting them and asking if they have any recommendations (regarding whether you should retake the class or not). However, generally speaking to get just get into a school, I would not worry. You can also try to help make up for it by really studying hard for the chemistry section of the DAT when it comes time for you to to take it. A high score in general chemistry on the DAT can help demonstrate that you don't have a deficiency in that area.
