Hi everyone! I’m just trying to decide how to rank these schools for the Texas match. Both seem like great, friendly institutions which is what makes this hard.
Dell pros:
-1 year preclinical
-Opportunity for dual degree with UT (I want to get my MPH)
-Longitudinal family & community medicine rotation through 2nd & 3rd year
-Heavy emphasis on patient-centeredness
-impressive step 1 score (though n=1)
-Very innovative
-prosected cadavers
-small class size
Dell cons:
-No global health programs/organizations, which is my main interest in medicine
- I think I did poorly in the interview
- New school, hasn’t matched a class to residency it feels like a bit of a risk
-not sure if I’d like the way they do lessons, mandatory attendance
Long pros:
-get 1 week off to study for each exam
-love San Antonio
-really felt like I’d fit in here
-seems like all the students have time to pursue interests outside of medicine
-free step 1 review course
-pays for all global health trios & has established global health connections/community (BIG plus for me)
-stream lectures
-lots of time for step 1 prep
Long cons:
-not as strong step 1 scores
-not pass/fail
-20 month preclinical
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
