I was just wonding whether the rise of the need of dentists are in the rise or on the decline. Are those that get out of dental school guranteed a job just as much as those that get out of med school? It just seems to me that dentists aren't in need as much as physicians are.

where theres a tooth....theres a dentist

The ADA website has a 'Dentistry Update' pdf file that says dentistry is on the decline.
Best,
Dan

I think it said # of dentists per 100,000 is on the decline...Which means they need more!

For every three dentists that retire, there are only two currently entering the field.

Does this mean less discrimination toward colored dentists?

The dentist shortage is and will be especially bad in rural areas, where there already aren't enough practitioners out there and retiring baby boomers can't find anyone to buy their practices. (My dentist isn't even planning on being able to sell his practice and is just going to sell the property.) I've heard that in urban areas, it still may be competitive to open a practice or get hired as an associate in high-dentist-density areas, so move to a smallish town and be a pillar of the community! They need you!!
