I finished an internship last year with no problems, and matched into a competitive specialty to start July 1 on opposite ends of the country. The licensing board waited until early July to inform me that I needed to meeet with them but not until this last week (9 weeks) into the PGY2 before issuing a license. The issue was 2 misdemeanors both nearly 3 years ago🙁one for verbal assault of a cab driver)- law has since been thrown out as was defined as "causing apprehension" is grounds for assaut, was found as unconstitutional. My conviction still stands. The other was a domestic violence issue witha girlfriend that I had broken up with. They insisted on seeing the police reports which looked bad, but no evidence of physical assault in either case. Anyway- the board informs my attorney that they are worried about my morale. So, no license. I have the option of appealing-but will then be blacklisted as denied licensure, or I can withdrawal. Just moved coast to coast with fiance- and now unemployed. Program totally supportive, and the board basically denied me. At the board meeting, I took the advice of my attorney and just stated that I was ashamed and remorseful, and didnt really verbally defend my innocence. What to do? The field I am in/or was in very competitive! ?? Appeal? Take a year off? Same issues with licensing in other states? Try and match again? Any advice appreciated
