Hello everyone,

I recently got a job as a dental assistant and I was wondering if is not good in the dental application, I have 300+ shadowing hours and I just don’t want to stand by the doctor and watch them, I wanted to work so I thought about dental assisting. Does it effect my dental application in any way, would it help.I also got my x-ray certification.

Thanks in advance

Don’t worry! It helps your application bc it shows dedication and interest plus u get to get paid for learning 🙂

Having relevant experience in dentistry will help you tremendously, both in your application and in your clinical skillset. It will prove to be an asset, especially if the doctor you work for allows you to have expanded chairside functions, such as the one I work for. In summary, it will definitely help you. Best regards!!

Thank you, I was so stressed because I thought that it would look bad. I really appreciate it

We like seeing all sorts of dental experience on the application. That being said, please make sure that your DA position isn't creating too large of an opportunity cost in terms of what else could be done with that time - research, volunteering, etc.
