Hey guys!
so I have my interview for Dental school coming up pretty soon, and I'm kind of uncertain about what to wear for the interview.
I bought a very nice professional-looking dress, but it's maroon. Is that too much of a bold statement? Should I be sticking to the blacks and greys?
I would pair the maroon dress with either a beige blazer and nude pumps (not very tall, very professional) or a black blazer.
Any input would be appreciated!

Interesting color choice. I say do the dress but with a blazer. Does a black blazer look okay with it? I'd also cinch your waist with a belt if you're keeping the blazer open..to kind of break up the look a bit. Perhaps a super skinny black belt with the dress and a black blazer? I think that would look professional and put together.

I'm headed to my first interview, as well! The general consensus is to stick to a conservative pant/skirt suit. Or a sheath dress with a matching suit jacket. Black, grey, navy. I would not suggest a beige blazer or nude heels. Not that your outfit is inappropriate--it sounds nice--but it may stick out. If you want some color, you can add a maroon blouse/button-up for some visual interest.

Yeah, that's what I assumed about the beige blazer. The maroon dress is a sheath dress though. So would it be bad paired with a black blazer? I'm having such a hard time finding pant/skirt suits that fit me. I'm very petite! haha

I wasn't planning on keeping the blazer open. I think a belt with a blazer that has a button would look kind of strange, no?

Personally, I wouldn't do the maroon sheath dress. I'm sure it's tasteful, but I still wouldn't risk it.

Finding a well-fitting suit is hard! I know Ann Taylor/Loft, Limited, New York & Co, Banana Republic, and J Crew all offer petite sizes online. I'm not sure how close your interview date is, but if you're in a time crunch, you could try ordering multiple sizes and return whatever doesn't fit. Or get a regular size and see if you can get it tailored quickly, which actually isn't too expensive.

Edit: Also, from what I've read, panty hose is a must for skirts/dresses, unfortunately...

I also agree with Fondue and say that you should just stick with the usual. If you're wearing something that is not of the norm, there is a higher chance that it will affect you negatively than positively. Whereas if you wear something in the norm, you will have nothing to worry about. (I think your outfit sounds very great though, but best not to risk it for something that can affect you for the rest of your life).

Keep looking around for suits. Unless your body frame is extremely uncommon, there is no way you can't find a suit. If anything, get it tailored.

I think a dress with the blazer buttoned would look odd. It has the potential to create the illusion that you have an odd body shape. I've seen it happen too many times. Blazers with buttons paired with a belt is actually a thing. And it really looks put together. I'm petite also so finding proper interview clothing was a struggle. I wanted to just get a dress but I ended up with a skirt suit..which I've grown to despise since I feel like I look like every other female.

Do the maroon dress girlfriend. You'll be different in a positive way and maroon isn't an obnoxious color by any means. Screw all our opinions. Wear what you love and what makes you happy.
