Well, you have the Penn and Temple dental schools right in Philly, so I would go with contacting the faculty at the school you're closest too. However, I think it will be really rough to get a position if you're not actually at those schools for u-grad (or grad if that's the case). If you're at Penn, give me a PM, and I may be able to help (or at least hook you up with a cool pre-dent club... hooray for shamless plugs 🙂 ).

Either way, I think the general idea is that it's cool that you actually have *some* research experience, and while not necessarily dental research, it's still more experience than probably a good amount of applicants.

Any type of researc is really good. Penn is doing a lot of tissue engineering and dental research. As is (I believe, but don't quote me) Drexel.

But genetics is really good too. There's a lot of dental research focusing on genetics now and I think that might be the hot new area.

You could also try to volunteer at these schools (depending on where you go/GPA, etc). Try contacting some professors and seeing what they think. Expect to dig up some LORs from your current research profs.

THough genetics might be the way to go. Most schools jsut want you to have research. It doesn't matter what in.
