Hey I'm applying as first time applicant and was wondering if you guys can help me with my schools list.

Some info about me:
NJ resident, large instate school
3.7 ADEA science GPA, 3.76 overall GPA
DAT: 24 AA, 25TS (18 PAT)
Shadowing : about 150 hours
Volunteering: 150-200 hours
Work: 6-700 hours
Involved in number of clubs (w/ leadership roles)
NOT URM
*Taking out all Loans*

Schools List: Rutgers, Maryland, UConn, BU, Tufts, Columbia, NYU, Stony Brook, Touro, Temple, Upenn, UPitt, NOVA

Can you guys give me some feedback on my list so far. Are there any schools I should drop, add, replace? I plan on applying to 10-12 schools ideally. I also want to graduate with as little debt as possible hopefully.

I would take off the insanely expensive schools that will cripple you financially like NYU, Touro, and NOVA, unless you're doing HPSP. Don't even bother giving those robber barons your application money. Your GPA, DAT, and EC's seem solid, so I'd be very surprised if you don't get into Rutgers which financially should be your goal. I'd say you'd be fine with UCONN, Rutgers, Stony and try to find some state schools that give you in state after a year.

Take out BU, Tufts, NYU, and NOVA. They are expensive as heck. Take these out if you want to keep the loan amount down. Penn is also expensive, but it's an IVY League school.

These are schools that allow state tuition after first year if you are interested in any of them
  • UCLA
  • UCSF
  • UConn
  • UFlorida
  • UNC Chapel Hill
  • Texas A&M
  • Texas Houston
  • Stony Brook
  • Maryland
  • UNebraska Las Vegas
  • Rutgers
  • Buffalo
  • Ohio
  • Texas San Antonio
  • UWashington

Shouldn't I include NYU and NOVA just incase. Basically as safety schools? I don't want to miss a year by applying to really competitive schools.

I thought I should include NYU and NOVA as safety schools, is this not a good choice?

No. Going to these schools is committing financial suicide. You'd be better off waiting a year brushing up your app to get into Rutgers or finding a different career.

You can find safety/easy schools that are not as expensive as NYU or Tufts. I am guessing saving $$ is one of your objectives.
