I'm a long time lurker and first time poster on SDN. I realize this topic is overdone, but would really appreciate some advice or at least some comments to ease my (perhaps, paranoid) concerns. I will be submitting my AADSAS application in the next two days and wanted to make sure that I have a fitting set of schools to apply to.
Just graduated, and taking a gap year.
University was not ivy league, but considered prestigious. Very heavy on the sciences as 1/3 of the students are Pre-Med. Got a C-, C, and C+ in three of my classes freshman year; two of which were General Chemistry. Junior and Senior year all A and A- except for B- in microbiology final semester, so I've really turned around from my first two years of college. (Took lots of upper level biology courses)
oGPA: 3.50 sGPA: 3.35
DAT: 21AA (I don't remember the other scores, but all at least 20)
Dentistry: Shadowing hours 100. Other dentistry volunteer hours: ~100. Dental Research ~160 hours.
Extracurriculars: Student Government, Dance team, Pre-Dent Society, various other student groups and volunteer activities.
Current school list:
University of Michigan
NYU
UPenn
University of Pittsburg
Columbia
University of the Pacific
University of Louisville
University of Maryland
Case Western
Temple
Buffalo
Virginia Commonwealth
Which of these schools would be considered 'reach' with my stats? I've checked several websites, but it really seems that most dental school stats are pretty similar, all ranging around 20AA DAT and 3.5GPA, and I'm not sure how big a difference 1 point on the DAT really is when schools look at them.
Also what is the average # of acceptances per approx 10 dental school applied?
