Hi guys! I'm applying to dental schools this summer but don't have a list of schools that I want to apply to yet. I want to go to a school that starts clinical experiences early on (doesn't have to be with living patients, I just want to start doing something with my hands).

I think I will be apply to VCU, Louisville, UMD, Temple, Boston as of now. Please let me know if you guys know which schools do start clinical experiences early on like the first year or even second!

So when you say clinical experiences without living patients you mean like lab work? I'm sure most schools (if not all) have you at least doing waxing and operative during D1 at minimum.

LSU starts seeing patients second year, but you probably shouldn't apply unless you are from Arkansas or Louisiana.

UoP starts second year too, but their program is three years instead of four.

Most of the schools you've listed are known to consistently create dentists with fine hand skills, but I'm not sure when exactly they start seeing patients in dental school. Other schools know clinically- besides the ones you listed: Rutgers (need to be super smart to get in), NYU (so expensive), Colombia (IVY, enough said), and Maryland (need to be super smart).

EDIT: I'm sure there are many others, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

Yeah, tooth waxing in dental occlusion and wax carvings in dental anatomy.

At lecom, we see our first denture patient in January(spring semester).

Everyone mentioned simlab works, but what i understood was that op wanted to know about clinical experience. Simlab is not considered a clinical work. At least thats my understanding.

Ah, if simlab doesn't count then we start clinical rotations in the beginning of January in D1 year. We work alongside students (and residents) and either act as their assistant or do some procedures under their guidance. I've done anesthetic infiltrations, full-mouth perio probing and charting, cancer screenings, scaling, and some more run of the mill assistant stuff like prophies and fluoride application. Some classmates placed fillings. In the following year as a D2 you get your own hygiene patients and continue with rotations but most of the clinical work is done 3rd year like most schools.
