Dental schools updates

I called all the schools today to check my ap. status and these are my app. updates:

BU: No one answered (got the machine) all three calls

NYU: application in review status will hear from them 4-6 weeks from now

COLUMBIA: Admissions people goes home at 2 PM EST, didn't talk to them

NOVA: Talked to Su-Ann, she's personally reviewing my ap. tomorrow and will call me sometime this week to let me know if I'm qualified for an interview

Temple: app. is in review status, will hear from them 4-6 weeks (either an invite for an interview or a denial letter)

TUFTS: app. in Review status, class 2006 of 146 seats are already half full according to Helen (admission coordinator)!! She told me that I should hear from them within 4 weeks and by the time I get there for interview (if I get invited), the class could very well be full and I will be interviewing for the waiting list. 🙁

UDMercy: haven't receive my AADSAS application yet since I just added them to my list of AADSAS schools for fall 2002 last Thursday. I was encourage by Carol Blackburn (admissions assistant) to apply with my academic credentials even though it's getting late in the application cycle.

UOP: App. is in review status, should hear from them within 4 weeks.

U PENN: App. is in review status, should hear from them 4-6 weeks from now.

Marquette: App. is still in review status.

No, I don't! I don't know if you agree, but admissions people in general are very impatient and rude. All they want to do is hang up on you as soon as they answer your ONE question! It's like pulling teeth for them to give you any info about your application!! They always answer your questions as vague as possible. I think that they have a scripted answer sheet for all applicants when they call in, it's either:

"I don't know" or "in 4 to 6 weeks you'll hear from us" 😡

I'm assuming that since Nova and Tufts are at least half full for next fall class, all the other schools are probably along the same line at this point in time! At least you had your interviews....my interviews (if I get some) might be for the waiting list!! 😡

Just talk to UOP 2 minutes ago with Kristin Short about my application and their acceptance status. Their class 2006 of 135 next is as of today is already over half full! I should hear from them within 2 weeks for my denial or an interview invite! They do interview into March, but they also do interviews for the waiting list once the class if filled. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Don't worry too much people! Those admission people tell you anything to get you off their back...at least that's what I thought when I was applying. When they say the class is 'half full' it justmeans just that...they have accepted enough people to fill half the class. This does not mean that they are half way done accepting people. Most dental schools (well USC anyways) accept twice, that's right, twice as many people as the actual class size. So, if they are shooting for a class size of 100 people, they will target sending out 200 acceptances. They expect about 50% turn over rate....so relax 🙂
