How many dental schools did you apply to? I've narrowed it down to about 15 or 16....Asides from all the CA schools : case, nova, temple, nyu, pittsburgh, detroit mercy, louisville, tufts, maryland, and bu. Does anybody know other schools which accept more out-of-staters (I am a CA resident)? And which ones should I take off of that list or add? My GPA is around 3.5, haven't taken the DAT yet but plan to in a couple of months, and I would also fall under non-traditional category: computer science; worked one year in a sucky job after graduation before finishing up my science pre-reqs. So based on that much info., can anyone provide some thoughts on my list above of selected schools that I am considering applying to...

i'm sitting at about the same GPA as you (3.6) and i'm applying to Cali in addition to 4 other out of state schools (nyu, bu, harvard, tufts). it's contingent upon your DAT scores but i think you have a good shot at all of them.

i think it's a waste of money to apply to 15 schools unless you think you're gonna bomb the DAT. i applied to 8 and i'm from utah (kind of) - where they don't have any schools. surely you'll get into a CA school, right? if not, unlv and arizona both take a fair amount of out of staters. you can add them to your list if you're trying to stay close to cali.

I applied to 13 schools and it was way too many. I sent in my application prior to taking the DAT and was really worried that I would bomb it so I panicked and threw in a few extra. Why was it a mistake? In my case mostly money - applying to dental school is very expensive, especially if you go to a lot of interviews. Looking at your list I would toss NYU and BU and keep Case, NOVA, and Maryland - the others I don't have a preference one way or the either.

I applied to 7, but was very tempted to apply to Hawaii...I think its just too far from the continent for my tastes though...but the weather is great.

take DAT as early as u r ready. u have a strong gpa. apply early.

toss LLU if u r not religious.
i would skip louisville and pitts, and quite possibly detroit
and pick either NYU or BU.
i may even skip case since they accept people really early.
as a matter of fact, u need to work fast for uop as well.
and i have no idea what the other schools are in ur list.

ya, unlv and arizona should be in there if u want to stay in the west.
i would try UPenn and columbia and maybe UMich.

keep in mind that other people will see this thread and might do the same.
it depends on u to choose wisely. does it worth that extra 100 bucks to get u another chance to get into a dental sch?

I disagree with the previous post. I would definately apply to Louisville and Maryland over NYU and BU. They are friendly to out of staters, have great programs, and are much much cheaper.
