I'm interested in doing research in the dental field during or after my DDS. For 2ndary applications on 'why are you interested in our school?' questions, I wanted to write specific areas of study in that particular school that interest me (immunology research). Does being too specific in these essays work against me? Is there a chance that the person reading my 2ndary essay is a research professor who becomes butthurt that I mention I am interested in one of his colleague's work? Is it better to be more general about research involvement? Thanks in advance!

well, if they do, doesnt seem like an insitution you'd want to be a part of. at least i wouldnt.

if you're gonna go for it, go for it. dont name names, but if you have an interest and know that the institution is known for that interest...that's a pretty valid reason for wanting to go there.

Thanks in advance!

i dont think mentioning general interest in topics would hurt. saying immunology is the best and most advanced, my favorite department of your school, etc.. obviously could strike that chord. Its far more likely a research admissions adviser would love to promote the research field instead of accepting the rest of these non-academia money loving predent donkeys ya know?

ya know, because we're all money loving donkeys.

Heh, Crax. You've pointed out one trend I have noticed about pre-dentistry vs premed, pharm, or phd.

Alot of the predents at my school tend to be a little academically lazy or disinterested at best. The money thing doesnt bug me, however; the "Geez, when will I ever use this" high-school-mentality that tends to go along with the more financially leaning predents does.
