sorry, should've put this together with my other thread i just made but i forgot =/

anyways, my dentist that I have shadowed/interned for about 300 hours told me MYSELF to write my OWN LOR?! he said he will then sign it afterwards/upload it.

wtf should I do, if i write it, I am afraid that my tone would be different than that of a doctor's and adcoms will be able to tell.

what should i do 🙁 I have no idea where to start lolz

Sounds like neither of you can a write an lor. Of course, you have an excuse, what is his/hers?

Dentists are human too.
How different could his/her tone possibly be?!
Now, whether this whole thing is ethical or not...I don't know!

i told him ill interview him and get his impression of me... i mean i was his patient for 10+ years and interned for hundreds of hours... god i am so frustrated at this application lol

That has been pretty common nowadays for the recommenders, other than professors, to ask you to write the letters for them. Believe me when they ask you to write it, write it and write a damn good one. You will be only making yourself look better. Also if your afraid your tone will sound like your application, just ask your friend or family member to write it for you. All the dentist I have asked have asked me to write my own and they will sign it as well, and I have asked 3 dentists so far.

Looks like your are optionless. Look up on the web for some LORs written from physicians to med students / dent students and try to sound like them.... nothing else you can do

yeah a lot of dentists will let you write your own so you can make yourself look great in those letters. maybe another worker at the office can tell you what qualities they've observed in you? either way, use this to your advantage. good luck!
