I wanted to know if you guys can tell me how much weight does a LOR carry? I will be getting one from a general dentist, one from a orthodontist, and one from a oral surgeon. (i've worked as a dental assistant for 3.5 yrs) GPA is around <3.0 and I am working on the science classes right now so I don't have a science GPA yet. Thank you

Well you need to look at what the specific requirements are for the schools you will be applying to. My school had a committee letter deal so that's what I did, if you school doesn't do the committee thing then you better make sure you give each school what they want specifically. Most school want at least 1 lor from a science prof. Lots of schools want 2 from science profs, and 1 from a dentist. Sending letters that are not what they specify is like saying, "I didn't care enough to follow your guidelines." Even with U of Minn. they did accept my committee letter but then asked for another science faculty letter and a letter from an employer.
A good rule to follow is pick people who know you well and like you. I had a hard time doing this with the science faculty at my school because I was in big classes and I don't kiss... well you get the picture. It's good to get to know your profs but everybody hates those guys that walk up after class every day to brown nose with the teacher just cause they're hoping to get a good letter out of them.
