Congrats to you!!!!! 🙂 actually the answer is quite simple, i think....DrCure21, when you were at the interviews at both of those schools, i'm pretty sure that the interviewers asked you "why pharmacy?? or why dentistry??" what were yr answers??? Or when you wrote yr personal statements, what did you write??? that's yr answers right there......

Honestly, this can only be answered by you. They are completly different careers.

Spend time observing and researching both fields and see which one is more comfortable to you.

I meant to say; which career path, sorry, not pathway...

i think that you can do more dentistry as in moving up, versatility etc.

after you get your dental degree, you can practice and just take weekend courses for a specialty if you're interested.

with dentistry, you can also own mutiple practices if you would like a more business aspect of the profession.

with pharmacy, there is less stress in comparison i believe. it is a flexible, engaging career but you can't really "climb the ladder" with it so to speak.

dentistry has the potential of yielding a higher income but at the same time, that takes a lot of hard work. and there is also the malpractice insurance you have to think about.

just some ideas to help you get thinking.

good luck!

Or you can do what I'm doing: go to pharmacy school, and date a dentistry student. Best of both worlds 🙂

Congrats to you! Well, this is a decision you have to decide....basically, what is your passion (besides patient care)? You can do a lot with both careers, whether teach, practice, open your own practice, and so forth. The first thing that stands out (to me) for both careers are potential earnings and overhead. Dentistry can be costly at first when opening your own practice or running one, but can eventually pay off depending on how well you manage your practice. My friend recently graduated from dentistry and is working as a contracted dentist for a group. Right now, he's on a production line....the more patients he sees, the more money he earns ($9000 per month before tax). He is also looking to work with other established dentists as well for more stability...On the other hand, pharmacy is attractive because you can work in any field of pharmacy (clinical, pharmaceutical company, teach, retail, and so forth), but the pay is stable...just depends if you want to do management in the future...

IMO there is a personality difference between dentists and pharmacists, but it could just be my family and our friends. My husband is a dentist & I'm a pharmacist & we agree we coudn't do each other's jobs. If I see him objectively, he is a detail oriented person, very creative with his hands, sees more shades of white than I see in the whole spectrum of color, sees the whole mouth as an important integral part of the body and one which he can repair or make more beautiful. I also feel its true of my husband and other dentists I know personally - they love gadgets and like to try the newest gadget. Not all dentists are good with people, but they can become good if they own their own business. IMO, dentists hate the side of business - they'd rather be doing dentistry, not following reports on how much money they make per chair per hour. Finally, altho I'd like to think they are laid back - they all aren't! However, they do like to get away and enjoy themselves. Its more difficult to describe a pharmacist because I may not see myself as others do. However, my husband will say I'm much more academic - I want to read journals to keep up with the new drugs and the diseases they treat. I've retained my ability to run kinetic equations or areas under the curves which just baffle him. I also have more patience with endless questions that you see in pharmacy. I, personally, would not be a very good business owner - I'd worry too much about it. Being distanced as a spouse is a good place. He would not be a very good employee - if he sees a new impression material to try, he doesn't want to write a memo requesting it...he'll order it. So...after this long post....try to think about the kind of person you are. What really would send you home feeling great - telling your wife about a bombed #17 that you did a post & core with a PFM crown or telling her about the patient who came and asked if you felt her 180/130 bp was too high & you sent her to be checked out & she came back with an rx for lisinopril? Both are good stories....but which one do you want to tell? Good luck - you can't go wrong with either choice IMO.
