Some do and some dont. Kind of like if you compared almost any two professions. Statistically? It depends on whos stats your looking at. Ive seen it both ways there as well.

The two that I spoke with make in the $200-$300 range. Of course, the DPM who was with an Ortho group made the higher range and only worked 3.5 days a week. The other was a DPM in a well known residency program in the midwest. Then again, I met another older DPM with only a 1 year surgical residency who was able to bill out $750,000 out of his office last year, but had to pay %60 overhead.

Then I heard of some DPM's out of residency get totally screwed from working with another Podiatry group who took them for everything, while only paying them something ridiculous like $40,000-50,000 for their 1st year out of residency. Now thats what I call a slap in the face from your own crowd. I believe and hope in the future we won't see some groups taking advantage new POD's like this. Remember that once your done with your medical training and have 150K in debt, at 5.3% interest you will be paying a minimum like $1000 per month for 30 years for your federal loans.

Very tough question, I would say statistical no. This might be changing as pods are become more qualified and many states are moving towards equal work, equal pay.

Many of the statistical salaries are off b/c podiatry has a wide diversity of physicians. I worked w/ a guy at the VA that never went into a residency. He is very very limited in his practice now. Heck, I got that feeling that in certain areas, I might have known more.

Then based on that information you can fufill your life's dream of owning the largest trailer in the park....

Is this for real? Do people really need to know who makes more money in order to become a professional in the health sciences? Is undergrad now filled with high school seniors? Then when they get to interview they bragg on their volunteer time, every club they've been in since pre school and how they just want to help people.

Not to sound like a jerk, but why do we professionals answer these foolish questions? I can see if the question was once again for the 100000000000000000000 time "how much do podiatrists make." Fine answer away....

But the question was about who makes more money. Do we really want to answer questions like this?

BTW, who has/had the meanest grandma on these forums? Who has the largest sigmoid colon? Who gets more respect a dentist or a podiatrist or bill gates? Who has the cleanest apartment? Who is the smartest/most popular podiatry student?

You're just a pessimist Whiskers. You look for the bad in everything. I have to disagree with you. I dont think there is anything wrong with knowing how much a professional can expect to make in his given field. Whether or not toof is making his decision on just that, is your own assumption. Try to lighten up a little.

First of all, if you are really a professional - why you even posting a responed to my question if you think it is foolish? lol sorry but you proved you are a jerk.

Secondly, people go to podiatry school because they have passion for the profession but at the same time you want to know if spending 7 years out of your life will be worth it and you will be able to pay back your loans.

Thirdly, there is nothing wrong with exploring different field and be a rounded person.

Fourthly, money is not everything but it is important - and I bet you every single person that decide to pursue any degree, the first thing they look at is the potential income "common sense"

Lastly, every one is free to ask any question as long as you are constructive about it - and just want to build up knowledge.

Quick advice: To Mr. Whiskers => No body force you to turn on your computer and log on to SDN and answer my question - you don't like the thread move on - and by the way my question was: is it true that podiatrist make more money than dentist - not if my question is foolish or not - if you can't read it is your problems "Mr. professional" - chill man lol.

This question is too general! It all really depends on YOU as the healthcare professional, your location, and your ambitions. I've seen dentists rake in $300K per year and have huge offices in great areas. But I've also seen a few dentists make less than $100K and actually some that went backrupt (my former dentist) due to bad business management or competitive location. Same thing can apply to podiatry. I've talked to Podiatrists who work in ortho groups rake in $150K+ but have also heard of Pods in areas where competition is high make less than $150K as well. I'd recommend pursuing the profession you think you'd be happier with since both professions will bring you a comfortable lifestyle as long as you work hard for it. Just have to ask yourself would my life be happier if looked at teeth or feet everyday I go to work? Money doesn't always make you happy but it helps. 👍 Goodluck with what you decide to do!

Man this is what i've learned from life, from others experiences. Those who have said do what you love to do it will make you happy person is strictly BS. If you love what you do but the money's not there, you will start hating it, why cause your woman will start bitching kids will have to go to college and you want a ferrari, and live in a mansion and go on expensive trips thats why.

I don't want to work hard for the rest of my life making S#@y money. Sure having an interest in the field is important but it isn't everything. Every job becomes routine after a while and if the money's not there you will start to hate it. Only about 2% of the population truly has a passion for something his or her whole life and is willing to do whatever it takes to continue with it, regardless of money, discomfort etc.

All the meds, dentists, pharms, pods are doing this because a big factor is the money 7 years is a long time as one of you said and if the results are S#@ty WTF is the point. That's why people want to know the first thing that comes to mind "how much do they make" when they decide on a career.

Sorry to be hectic, I felt like expressing my thoughts.

If dr. x's main priority is to stop his spoiled kids and wife from being your typical middle class whiners instead of having the patients best interest at heart, then maybe that explains those physicians who end up in trouble b/c of fraud and doing unnecessary procedures.

No matter how much some of these folks make they're always going to be living on credit cards their and next home mortgage.

If you spend more than you make you're going to be poor and in debt. Then your spoiled kids will become adult pimps and your spoiled wives will latch on to their next free ride.

PS all most all podiatrists do not live in mansions or drive Ferraris. Instead they are common middle class folks jsut like 99.9% of us will be.
