I was informed by several programs that all PTCAS schools agreed deposits would be due no earlier than January 14th. This helps students avoid paying school donations. I have not found this documented anywhere but was very curious as one of the schools I have been accepted wants money next week. I would like to check out some more details before deciding so I was curious. I'm not going to make a big deal about it but I was curious if others have had similar circumstances.

This is from the ACAPT Admissions Traffic Rules, new for this year. You can see the rules for programs (including that January 15th is supposed to be the earliest required deposit date) here.

Unfortunately, nobody is actually enforcing this.

I haven't made up my mind yet and one of my schools requires $200 by the 23rd so I'll be paying that regardless.

Have you guys contacted the schools to ask for an extension? I know for UTMB and ASU, I called and they both let me not only request for an extension, but also choose the specific date I wanted. Not every school might be as lenient, but it's worth the try!

I think that is messed up they want money so early. I would say something to PTCAS about it. The schools I have gotten into have said that they have to wait until Jan 15th ish.

I can honestly say that I do not think this school cares a whole lot what the APTA rules may be. They tend to be more focused on what works best for them. State schools can act that way.

I spoke to NYU about this because they wanted $750 by December 20th which is 5 days before Christmas.. so when I spoke to them about it asking why they don't follow the rules about the money being due January 15th, they said that their program has never had to abide by these rules and the Dean of the school (not the PT program) said that he had never even known/heard about them... so I denied them because they seemed to care more about getting money. They kept trying to push it on to me by stating "other students are doing it" but not sure if they think we're all sheep and just follow the herd...

Was able to get mine extended to Jan 23rd (LIU). 🙂 It was initially a two week deadline 12/27! I'm waiting to hear about their scholarship offer.

NYU is definitely a school that cares about $$$. Went there for undergrad, regretted it. Their PT facilities are way worse than their undergrad facilities as well.

Most of the students also gave me the impression that they were unprepared for being actual PTs and that they were banking on the amount of confidence the school had instilled in them rather than their actual skill
