Sorry, I changed my username to avoid any chance of identification (classmates or otherwise). I want to end up in NYC and am ranking the NY programs I interviewed at accordingly. I am looking for some feedback from people who interviewed there as well or senior residents with any experiences. This is what I have so far, hoping to finalize IN 2 DAYS OR SO. I'm adding my thoughts and want to know if they are warranted or not. It's tough to get a feel of a place after a few hours and interviews (note- I am from a southern school and am not "in the loop" when it comes to these programs.) Going based only on the feel I got from interviews and what i read on here previously on here.
1.) NYU- I think reputation sets this program apart from the rest. Place was great and seemed like all faculty were "big wigs"
2.) Sinai- Great place and had a good feeling about this place. I heard they have a pref for research fellows though. Any truth to this? I hope not.
3.) Cornell- Amazing place and facilities. The housing situation is probably the best of all the places in the city. I'm scared of the workload but wouldn't mind ending up here. I hear they match incredibly for fellowships
4.) NYMC- I thought the chairman wasn't really that friendly but the program wasn't too bad. I am a bit turned off by all the traveling but thought the residents were awesome. I hope I end up somewhere in my top 3 but this place would be tolerable based solely on the residents.
5.) SLR- Honestly, I really loved the chairman but I thought the facilities were a dump. I was also turned off by the focus on skin of color patients. I think having a better balance of patients will be more representative of what you see in private practice. I wasn't a fan of the housing either (scary!)
6.)downstate - Did aa rotation. Shalita is awesome and the residents were super chill.
Please let me know any thoughts. Again, mine are based on only a brief few hours seeing a place and could be totally off-base. I want to make as educated a decision as possible.
Note- Did not receive interviews from Einstein (very disappointed) or Columbia (eh, they wouldn't take me even if I interviewed).
