Anyone else curious about other people's stats & status? I am, so I'll post first. Good luck to everyone on the interview hunt!

Interviews: Scott & White
Rejections: Michigan

AOA: Yes
Step 1: >260

I think other info would be more helpful...pure numbers don't mean much without context (IMO). Such as med school quality, research, pubs, etc.

More info is better, but some people may not want to give out too much information if they want to stay anonymous. I'm just curious, and I think individual posters can decide for themselves how much info they want to give.

Strong work on your Mich interview. I wish I would have gotten one there. Good luck on everything.

its kind of useless this early in the game (so few interviews out there anyway this time of the year)

Maybe we can do this late january or early feb.

or are you trying to size up the competition? That's fine, I guess. We've got nothing else to do but wait.

I guess some people feel like they want to hold their cards close to their vest. I just think it's interesting to see what people's stats are and where they are getting interviews.

I know it's early, and I understand some people feel vulnerable discussing their stats even though it's anonymous. Some people want to share information, and I don't think your timeline of "late january or early feb" is necessarily any better than mine unless you think you are going to hide something from everyone else by being secretive.

What's there to hide? All our stuff is in already.

That's why I'm just curious. I figure nobody has anything to hide, and it's interesting to learn more about people and where they are going and where they have interviews. No one is forcing anyone else to post, but for those willing to share, I and others are curious.

I'll play.

Step 1 in 240's, not AOA, top 10 med school
1 yr research with publications/abstracts/posters
1 derm rotation at home, 1 away; 3 derm letters

So far just one invite to Hopkins.

Thanks, dermie09. That wasn't painful, was it? It's cool that you had a year of research. I have known several people who did a year of research, and I think it served them all well in the match. Furthermore, congratulations on your Hopkins interview! That's a great place. Good luck down the road.

Yeah what's there to hide? Looking at the join dates of those posting in the interview/rejection thread, I was wondering if most of the people are completely new to SDN or long time posters but now using different names so peeps can't figure out who they are. Ether way keep the forum alive.👍

Maybe after the match you guys/gals would be willing to contribute to a match poll with stats, so future applicants can see/gauge what it takes to match or interview at certain places. If anyone wants to add info to this thread but remain anonymous so peeps don't figure out who you are, you can PM me and I'll add your info without any identifiers.

I'm not complaining. Forget keeping the forum alive, all these new posters are injecting new life into this once dormant forum!

Step 1 > 240.
Missed out on AOA twice. (I may or may not have wept because of this 😳)
Unremarkable medical school.
Limited non-derm research with 0 pubs/abstracts/posters.

Not surprisingly, I have 0 invites thus far. 🙁

I have many friends who both barely made AOA (myself included) and barely missed AOA. The differences between the two often are pitifully small, and I think many programs try to take that into account. You have a good step 1 score, which always helps, so good luck to you. Keep hoping because, as was mentioned in an earlier post, there is a lot that goes into making a good application, and personality counts for a lot. You seem to not take yourself too seriously and to be able to get along with people, so I bet things will work out for you.

Best of Luck!

I appreciate it when people help me out by sharing info, so I can only do the same. I'd be more than happy to contribute stats after the match. And if I match I'll do it that much more happily!😀

Thanks for the kind words.

And congratulations on your outstanding stats! 👍

There is no perfect applicant, of course, and I'm a little deficient in the non-numerical pieces of the puzzle. I'm not surprised to be hearing rejections now either.

Step 1 < 240 (but close...), all clinical honors
AOA (YAY!)
State school
Lots of derm research (bench, clinical and case studies) with pubs, AAD posters, and more papers on the way
Lots of derm experience with private practice and PD's across the nation outside of rotation (and rotations, of course)

we'll see... 🙂 Wish I did better on Step, but I hope my other stats make up for it. Still AOA, after all.

interviews, sensitive skin? You are a great applicant.

Dang! I admire you guys and your awesome stats. I'm only MS1, but I've been struggling mightily with my courses and already worrying about chances to get into derm (so many people doing better than me... looks like AOA will be impossible for me).

Good luck to all!

I'm in,

Step 1: >250
AOA: Yes
Research: two derm papers submitted
School: Middle of the road

Invites: S&W
Rejections: Michigan

Thanks for the encouragement. There were a number of times I thought I would not be AOA, but it ended up working out after some good clinical grades for me. Good luck to you too.

Maybe I'll see you at S&W. Do you think your papers will be published by interview time? I have one submitted right now that I'm waiting to hear back on. Hopefully it will work out.

Excellent grades
AOA
243 on step 1
derm research - 1 paper submitted, 1 almost submitted, and an abstract for a presentation submitted

No interviews
No rejections
(didn't apply to mich or s&w)

Lets try to keep this updated so we can help each other out (and hopefully get to meet on interviews since most places only have one or two interview days)

This is me:

Step I > 260
All clinical honors
Top 10 med school
Various pubs, presentations, and book chapters (1/2 in derm, 1/2 not in derm)

Invites: none
Rejections: UMich

Wow, Michigan had the shaft cannon out this year, you sound like an all star. I wonder if they mostly take md/phd's from the midwest?

Anyone on here get one to michigan, I'd be curious to hear how it goes.

anyone with less than stellar stats get an interview yet?

They put up names on a list.

They throw darts blindfolded.

Interview those who are pierced with a dart.

Well I do have a research yr to back me up, but my grades aren't that great. In fact my dean wasn't so hot on me applying into derm.

excellent work dermbug. You will surely match. I'm surprised Umich rejected you. It is a crazy process.

with umich, i really do think a lot of it has to do with location as someone had mentioned before

I just wanted to say that I love the phrase "shaft cannon," and I hope it becomes commonly used both on this board and in everyday language.

Sincerely,

Dean's letters are out. The interviews should start pouring in, now....right?

Yeah, I hope so! But according to last yrs invite timeline, a lot of programs don't give invites till Dec!
