In the decks:
  • dermatomes are supplied by cranial nerves and spinal nerves...
  • cranial nerve dermatome do not overlap but spinal nerve dermatome overlap. Can someone please explain what a cranial dermatome is?
is not the definition of a dermatome : area of skin supplied by single pair of dorsal roots of spinal cord ?????
so how could it be supplied by cranial nerve too????

thanks in advance

a dermatome is the cutaneous representation of the area supplied by a nerve
both cranial and spinal nerves have dermatomes ......... except for C1 that has no cutaneous suppy .
cranial nerves have suppy individualy ..... thus anesthesia can be produced by a single nerve block
whereas spinal dermatomes overlap.... that is to anesthetise the dermatome supplied by T2 , three nerves need to be anesthetised ..... that is T1, T2, and T3
