Alright, so I did some research about the topic here on SDN and found pretty much what I needed but I just wanted an up-to-date opinion...

The Question/Prompt: .Describe any special circumstances that you feel the Admissions Committee should note and take into consideration when reviewing your application..

Should I leave it blank, write that I don't have any special circumstances, or figure out something to write about?

Thanks in advance.

I just wrote my response to this prompt last night and felt that it is an oppurtunity to explain any type of adversity you have overcome. I mentioned growing up with diabetes and spoke about how it forced maturity and responsibility upon me. Although you may not have an obvious example that you have overcome, I am sure that you have struggled with something throughout your life. I would think about something that helped to develop your favorable attributes. If nothing comes to mind I guess you could leave it blank. However, I really dont think your application is based on this response or anything.

Yea, I understand what you are saying...

If I had a major death in my family or friends I would definitely include something like that but, by the grace of God, I have not. I would like to say something about deciding to change my career path just a year ago or something but I don't consider that a special circumstance or a life-changing event such as diabetes (which I think is awesome that you have come this far by the way) or a divorce or something like that...

Basically, I don't want to put something that sounds like I am forcing myself to answer the question...

By the way I was wondering if you are an undergrad at UNC? I go to NCSU, and figured we could potentially be in the same dental class next fall.

yea I am a rising senior at UNC....how about you? are you graduating next year?

Yea, I am a rising senior over here. How do you feel about your chances of getting in over there?

*bumping* this thread b/c I'm like to hear what other people have to say about the "anything else you want us to know" question

interesting...i just thought it was a spot where you explain (MAKE EXCUSES) that D+ in organic chemistry sophomore year, being suspended a semester for alcohol violation, or that assault charge you got on your record.

hey unc kids...i heard bobby frasor is pre-dental, is that true?

During the last cycle I received three interview invites all of which were from schools that required or accepted supplemental essays (I sent supplemental essays to 5 schools in total).

These prompts provide a great opportunity to further describe your experiences, background, and if need be as whoispittsnogle so eloquently put it explain (MAKE EXCUSES) for the D+ you got in organic chemistry sophomore year or why you were suspended for a semester after an alcohol violation.
