Hey everyone,
I need to answer this question and I've been thinking about what to write but all my ideas apply to physicians in general. I can't think of anything that is specific to making a good osteopathic physician. Can someone help me out? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated 😀

just repeat the word "holistic" over and over.

seriously, why is osteopathy so cool in your mind? why do you want to go to a DO school? if it's purely an MD back-up, all the luck in the world on writing a good essay. if you really truely like something in particular about getting to become a DO, it'll come easy.

It's not just a back up plan. I'm recently starting to learn about the DO philosophy and it really interests me. My problem is that the same qualities that will make me a good MD will also make me a good DO. Maybe I'm reading too much into the question but I think they want qualities that would specifically make me a good DO over an MD. That's where I'm confused.

I sort of remember a question like this on a secondary. I just cut and paste what I wrote originally and threw in some osteopathic jargons such as wholeness, interrelated, holistic stuff. If they ask you this question on an interview you can ask to specify what they mean...or be a smart ass and dodge the question by saying how the phil appealed to you and slowly progress to say the personal qualities that makes a great physician whether MD or DO are the same... compassion, etc.... Osteopathic doctor is no different from an allopathic..just phil supposedly 😉 :luck:

No not holistic, the word holistic makes the osteopathic philosophy sound hokie! And its not alternative either, but a more of a well rounded way of treating the person and not just the disease. Call it medical wellness if you will but holistic, I wouldnt call it that. Although some would disagree.

I was reading an article in this month's Osteopathic Debut and it clearly states that there is proven evidence that DO's have "on average a 4.5 cm larger penis" than there allopathic counterparts. Maybe you can throw this in your statement somewhere.

Before anyone gets upset, this is just a JOKE!!! Just let the admission committees know why you want to be a physician and what will make you a great one. Good luck on your journey.
