And speaking of Journey, no...you may not use 'Dont Stop Believing'

I love this question. It'll probably change by the day but right now it would be I Can Transform Ya - Chris Brown/ lil Wayne ( I don't agree with the entire context of the song but the overall structure of it describing self change effectively represents many of the things I'm feeling and thinking about personal self change and growth). I'm busy transforming myself, my life; into something bigger, stronger, better and more efficient. Something more confident, unwavering and unbreakable (you can break the body but you can't break a fighting spirit).

BTW it's only fair that you also share.

Edit: I agree, "Don't Stop believing" is so yesterday; you can't believe, you gotta know.

Hahaha Journey instantly popped into my head! Dang, you're good.

This song from Sister Act The Musical, along with the rest of the soundtrack, was on my car playlist pretty much the whole first half the year. It's so uplifting and happy.

I keep getting "I Can Transform Ya" with Chris Brown when I search for Transformer. Share the link, yo!

That's the right one, I just listed the name wrong. Corrected!

Thrift Shop - Macklemore

Because that's where I'll be after everything is said and done. :naughty:

'Kay. This was the clip that I heard when the vid popped up-

"Shoes you got it, got it, bags, you got it, got it
Cars, you got it, got it, m-money, you got it, got it
I can, I can transform ya, I can, I can transform ya
Anything you want I can, I can get it for ya"

You looking to be someone's sugar daddy? I got student loans... and I clean up real nice! 😍

Dan Hill - It's a Long Road.

Only because I just got through watching Rambo :naughty:

Like I said in my original post, I don't agree entirely with the context. Rather it is the ability to transform one's lifestyle. In the case of the song, Lil Wayne and Chris are talking about how they can change someones life however I think about the notion of how I can transform my own. I have always been a Chris Brown fan because his original music was so "I guess sweet" (and yes I'm a guy saying this); His song "Yo" was and probably still is my most favorite song from him. No talking about hurting women, or disrespectful lyrics; no lying or trying to manipulate, his music was very honest and encouraging. The song "I will Transform Ya" came out right around the time when the incident with Rihanna occurred, It felt like the entire world hated him; he was public enemy number 1 and still be persevered through it, even after being banned from Award shows, made to pick up garbage by the freeway, many of his public relationships went sour (such as the one with Oprah Winfrey).

He fought for years to emerge from the situation. I'm not discussing the incident itself but rather how he handled it. He fought for years to come back as a true mainstream artist. His music was banned from virtually every radio station in the country at one point. He actually began giving money to charities dedicated to helping women and showing up at commemorative events (yes I know that sounds more like he was helping himself than them but the point is he was helping others but still putting himself first because you have to). Even when the world doesn't love you, you've still gotta loving you or else you will get crushed. The song has a lot of meaning to me for that reason. I don't agree with everything that he has done up to date, like his tattoo's or even some comments he's made publicly (or his sudden emphasis on using street language); but I support and find inspiration from his ability to persevere and live his own life. So when I hear the song I think of how hard he fought and that's one of many things that inspires me.

You looking to be someone's sugar daddy? I got student loans... and I clean up real nice! 😍

I won't be a "sugar daddy" however I can be supportive. Still though, maybe one day but not today. The most important thing in my life other than myself, is becoming a Physician and those are the only two things I will dedicate the vast majority of my resources to.

Sorry folks. My song is dark. It hit a nerve and stayed there. The tone, the WORDS!!

I listened to this song probably everyday MS1 & MS2. I stopped relating to it when I started MS3 tho.

"Everyday is Exactly the Same" Nine Inch Nails

It might be "Midnight Rider" Allman Brothers. Let me go thru my iTunes. I'll come back w/ my MS3 song later. 🙂

Edit: I only like the "one silver dollar" part. I'm broke lol

My song is "Simple Man" Lynyrd Skynyrd. 'cept it was more like my dad talking.

Dynamite: Taio Cruz.

I pretty much pick a handful of songs to listen to over...and over...and over again from time to time. lol This is a song I instantly listen to right before I begin studying. It really makes me want to jump up and dance, so it makes me smile.

Haha, that sums up M1 and M2 year pretty well!

I made myself listen to Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" during M3 and M4 year to remind myself that I shouldn't "worry what they [the attendings] tell themselves when you're away."

It's so easy M3/4 years to get bogged down obsessing what the attendings and residents think of you and what your final evals will be.

Another one bites the dust, queen. Describes my prereqs so far. All a's up to this point! Hoping ochem and physics doesn't change that

Change your Mind - Sister Hazel

This line from that song: "If you want to be someone else and you're tired of fighting battles with yourself, if you want to be be someone else, CHANGE YOUR MIND"

Despite my collection of rock anthems and stuff from the likes of Tool, NIN, and my general disdain for organized religion, the two songs that I really like to listen when I need a something to pick me up and help me push forward are "The Motions" by Matthew West and "I Will Not Be Moved" by Natalie Grant.

'The Motions' has the following gems:

"cuz I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking
'what if I had given everything
instead of going through the motions'"

"no regrets
not this time
gonna let my heart
defeat my mind"

'I will not be moved' with some good guitar action

"I will stumble
I will fall down
but I will not be moved
I will make mistakes
I will face heartache
but I will not be moved"

*edit: although somedays Ozzy's 'Crazy Train' seems appropriate....

"Don't stop till you get enough" - Michael Jackson

That is just awesome.

@southpawcannon, you've just raised the bar for Non trad threads.

Till I Collapse (Eminem): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6W0fyl_0Ng

'Cause sometimes you just feel tired,
Feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that s**t out of you and get that motivation to not give up
And not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.

DAMN!!! 😱 😍

It was such a fun song from like college. But I just put on a youtube version w/ the words...WOW. AMAZING!!! I think this is my new anthem! THANKS!! 👍

As much as it sux when you get PIMP'd, based on some of my evals I'm getting back, I wasn't so bad after all.

I don't think I can ever listen to that song ever again. I listened to it in high school...with my depressed self...just wanting everyone and everything to go away.
lol I laugh at myself from back then. Actually, I made a music video for that song when in high school. 😳

I've heard it before but I just watched it on youtube and now I understand what they are really saying. Everything takes time, always do your best, everyone is an outsider until they step inside and you can't be afraid of what will happen, you simply have to let it happen.

Bonus: Eventually, you will find someone just like yourself trying to get in.

Love it! 525,600 minutes... times two! Pretty much sums it up.

"Share love, give love, spre-e-e-ad love!" 🙂 Campy, but awesome.

I actually have it tattooed on my hand which made for an awesome mock interview discussion.

"Through the Fire" by Chaka Khan....ok not all the sappy lyrics but this part...

"Through the fire, through whatever, come what may
For a chance at loving you
I'd take it all the way
Right down to the wire, even through the fire"

"You bet your life" by Rush.

The odds get even
You name the game
The odds get even
The stakes are the same
You bet your life...

"Ali in the Jungle" by The Hours because my GPA is not yet where it needs to be, but I still have a chance.

It's not how you start, it's how you finish
And it's not where you're from, it's where you're at
Everybody gets knocked down
How quick are you gonna get up?

Like Ali in the jungle,
Like Nelson in jail,
Like Simpson on the mountain,
With odds like that, they were bound to fail

Is there a song called "Kiss my ***** MCAT"? No... well we better get working on that.

But today? After getting my MCAT score? Fallen By Sarah McLachlan

👍👍All-time BEST SDN thread!

For now (applying, writing secondaries):
"It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll" - AC/DC

In school:
"She Blinded Me with Science" - Thomas Dolby

Residency:
"Hard Day's Night" - Beatles

Practice:
"Rock and Roll Doctor" - Little Feat

These are all more on the pun side than the reflective side - I'll probably put more realistic choices later.

Yea, I could pick any one of a number of songs from Killswitch Engage to describe my journey.

"Declaration"

We will not return to the countless mistakes of the past
I will not relive the failures of the man I once was

Only through dedication will I destroy your preconception

No longer will I let myself be truly satisfied with the standard
We will not return to the countless mistakes of the past

Only through dedication will I destroy all preconception

Let this be
Be the day
Day of my
My declaration
Let this be the day of my declaration

Join me,
Walk with me

Shatter the bonds that tie us
To what we strive to never be

Join me,
Walk with me

"Unbroken"

Forever falling, Into oblivion
The darkness crawls forward
It engulfs, my will to live
Fear is failure
And this is my motivation

Take back what was stolen
Reclaim all that's lost
With virtue, I will rise up from the ruins

Through adversity, there is redemption
With passion, fighting
I am unbroken
Through adversity, there is redemption
With passion, fighting
I am, unbroken

Take back what was stolen
Embrace the cycle
Refuse to turn back now and be led astray
Fear is failure
And this is my affirmation

Through adversity, there is redemption
With passion, fighting
I am unbroken
Through adversity, there is redemption
With passion, fighting
Unbroken!!

The absence of fear, is the renewal of ourself
The absence of doubt, breeds desire
If there is truth to fate
I will design it
I will not be denied it

"In Due Time"

Pacing aimlessly,
With my mind in unrest
Unsure of what may come.
What have I done to bring this down on me?
Helpless to make this undone

All in due time, see the world through different eyes.
All in due time, the shadows will give way to light.

How much more can I give of myself,
as these walls close in on me?
As I slip down into this despair
(into this despair),
There is nothing to attain

What victory
(what victory)
When my soul is weak,
(is weak)
where does my help come from?

All in due time, see the world through different eyes.
I see the world through different eyes.
All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.

All that we suffer through leads to determination
The trials we all go through gives us the strength to carry on
Something within us burns, desire feeds the will to live
A reason to believe I will see redemption

All in due time, see the world through different eyes
I see the world through different eyes
All in due time, the shadows will give way to light
All in due time

"The Turning Point"

In these days that pass before me
There was an anxious feeling that would hold me down
Tearing me inside
Bleeding my spirit

This is the turning point, the rising of the tide
No fear inside
This is the change that takes the suffering away
No more wasting time

Face the pain that suffocates
As the past returns to torment me
Wallow in my scars
Save me before I break

This is the turning point, the rising of the tide
No fear inside
This is the change that takes the suffering away
No more wasting time

Find the strength to maintain
Give me, give me a reason to believe
Search for truth that will not change
Give me, give me a reason to believe
