Hello everybody!!

I'm a non trade applicant trying for 2009 admission??

Can somebody please explain how supplementary in one subject in third year can effect your chances?? I passed my one subject as a supplementary during third year of engineering. please and please if somebody can help and let me know if it will jeopardize my admission to Med Schols?? Does it matter or they just consider your overall GPA during 4 years of study??
Any other way to compensate for this???

Thanks in advance!!!

Sorry, can you explain? What's a suplementary? Is it a poor grade? A short course?

Schools look at your science GPA, your overall GPA, and whether or not you've completed a particular set of courses (physics, o-chem, etc). As long as you have done all those, I'm not sure it matters what else you took.

Thanks for your reply!! A "supplementary" means exam/subject passed in second attempt. For example: if minimum marks for passing a course (during your undergraduate) is 50 percent but you couldn't achieve that required minimum marks during the regular semester. Then they ask you to write another exam for the same subject/course (during the same semester or other) and you must pass that course to continue with your undergraduate. The only bad part is 1) It is passed in second attempt and 2) you can never achieve more than 50 percent in the second attempt (doesn't matter how good you did during your second attempt. I hope it explains. I don't know if having passed one subject like that during my third year will effect my chances of admission. I heard that they look for overall GPA and not individual subject. Please clarify on this if you can.

Thanks again!!

Hi Satfan--

If it helps, the AMCAS application lists your grades for each individual class you have taken as well as your total GPA (both scientific, non-scientific and cumulative). I would imagine the total GPA's get more focus than individual classes (esp. if most of your course work has been done successfully and you only have a few areas that were less good!)

Gradewise, what did you get in the class after you passed the supplementary?

Satfan, what school did you go to?
