The questions is asking what is a promoter site?
a) a start site for DNA replication
b) a start site for DNA transcription
c) the binding site for regulatory proteins that will allow for transcription
d) the site on DNA at which polymerase binds to initiate transcription
e) more than one of these

The answer is d, but does anybody know why b cant be one of the answers too? Please explain. Thanks.

The promoter isn't actually where transcription of DNA starts. its where RNA polymerase will bind and then move along the strand until it finds the base sequence directing it to start transcription

Thank you, that's more clear to me now
