so the question asks for what is the promoter site?

a - start site for dna replication
b - start site for dna transcription
c - binding site for regulatory proteins that will allow for transcription
d - the site on dna at which rna polymerase binds to initiate transcription
e - more than one of these

I picked e for my answer (which included b and d). However, the correct answer is only D - why??

I'd say that the promoter isn't actually the start site of transcription. The promoter is upstream of the start site, which is where transcription of RNA actually starts occurring.

I'm hoping this isn't the type of question on the real exam. Under the pressure of the test and when your trying to move fast this is one I could see myself missing my not being careful enough.
