Hey I was wondering if someone could explain this problem to me.

Consider 5' AAT CGA CCT 3'. This deoxy ribonucleotide polymer could form a double stranded structure with which of the following choices?

a 5' TTA GCT GGA 3'
b 5' TTA GCU GGU 3'
c 5' AGG TCG AUU 3'
d 5' AGG TCG ATT 3'

The book says the answer is D. I can see with its not B or C because that is RNA. But I just cant understand why the answer isn't A. If someone can explain this to me it would be great. Thanks.

DNA strands run antiparallel and thus the new strand would be 3' TTA GCT GGA 5', or 5' AGG TCG ATT 3' which is D. Hope that helps 👍

Also, since its a DNA strand, A pairs with only T, not U (only pair up when its an RNA strand)
