In H20 which is the weakest base?

HClO4
NH3
NH2-
OH-
ClO4-

I think the weakest base is ClO4-, because it is the weak conjugate base, of a strong acid.

The answer in the back says its HClO4, Which is a strong acid.

I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

In water, the first one forms weak CB. The last one forms an acid.
Read the question more carefully.

bronsted lowry base is a substance that accepts a proton. In H2O, HClO4 will tend to loose a proton, while all others can take up a proton like a base. Strictly think about the definition of a base here, and you'll see that HClO4 is not ready to take up a proton, and so it's the weakest base.

does it make sense?
