Hello all,

This question relates to the reactivity of certain groups. The answer states that Mg is the most reactive metal because it is in group 2. What trends should we be familiar with and how to apply them? I was able to select this from process of elimination, but would like to understand more behind it.

Electron affinity and ionization energy...Mg has a low ionization energy so it is more reactive

The most reactive metals have the greatest tendency to lose electrons to form positively charged ions. Metals, therefore, become more reactive as they are located further to the left on the periodic table.
