Hi,
On road map 5 of destroyer 2009, there is a Br attached to a tretiary carbon and it reacts with CN- and Heat. (top of the page)

Why does E1 rxn happens? I was expecting and Sn1!

Can you please help me out..

Because CN- is a strong base/nucleophile. Also, with heat, elminiation is definitely favorable.
