So I recently bought the DAT Destroyer, and i'm just so overwhelmed by the amount of questions and its difficulty. What are some good ways to tackle these problems, like should i time myself, take my time, etc?

Take your time! I repeat Take your Time!😀

Destroyer can be frustrating but the goal is to teach you how to do the problems and become good at them. Do a few problems and when you miss one, spend time reading and understanding the solution. If you have to go to your textbook or other resources to understand that type of problem then do it! I would then recommend doing a few problems from those other sources inorder to reinforce the concept. Move onto the next problem you missed and do the same thing.

It is all about learning..don't worry about how many you miss!👍

P.S. I was horrible at gen chem and was not even getting 45% of the questions right the first time through... O-chem was a different story. I just finished O-chem and I was good at it so I was getting about 85%, if not more, correct.

How many problems did you do at a time?

Did you do it section by section? By that I mean all of OC at one time, then all of GC, then all of Bio or did you mix them up?

BTW thank you for your responses and blog (bookmarked 😀). They've been very helpful so far.

I agree, helpful posts. But did you mix up with the sections? And have you tried Cliff AP Bio?

Hey I think the best way to use destroyer is take your time!! for sure don't rush ro time it, cause they are some tough problems and you'd rather understand the concepts thoroughly than try n rush yourself. The part where you learn the most is going through like 50q than going thru the answers of every one, and I would suggest going through like 50q of chem after you feel prepared with chem and etc...beware Ochem is the most overwhelming as it is tougher than the real exam BUT it really tests your knowledge on your orgo backgroundd...don't approach this till you are ready!! The maps for ochem (basic rxns w/ reagents) is amazing andd in the answer key, very useful 🙂 good luck

Doublebonded: Thanks for bookmarking me 😀 i am glad you like it...

Mix it up it up for sure...👍

When i made my study plan I set aside 3-4 hours at a time per subject...So if I was going to study all day I would spend 3-4 hours on gen chem and 3-4 hours on biology and then throw math or pat somewhere inbetween for an hour...

With 3-4 hours to study a section, I would generally do 30 questions to start off with(depending on subject). After the 30 questions I would go back and check answers and do the necessary steps (described in my 1st response) to understand the material. Sometimes I would finish way early so I would do another 10 questions or whatever I had time for.

Let me know if that did not answer the question...

I mainly used cliffnotes for studying biology. I thought it was great. It is missing a little bit of physiology but you can fill in the gaps with another source such as kaplans book or online resources (cheaper🙂)...

If I were to do it all over again... I would still use cliffs and destroyer!

why do you think its called "destroyer" ? because it initially destroys confidence.

the trick with destroyer is to take as much time needed with the problems, elevate your thinking and try your best to solve without lookin at the solution (mostly referring to GC and Orgo portions).

I remember first time I ever went through it, I was scoring like 45% on GC and 55% in GC.... 2nd time was different, I was hitting 80s. Biology, I didn't particularly see it all that helpful, and first time through it, I got like 70% right, didn't bother with 2nd time.

Destroyer GC is harder than DAT
Destroyer Orgo is about the same level as DAT (maybe a tiny bit harder than DAT).

If you can master those 2 chemistry sections, you'll be very satisfied with your score.
