Got a call from UDMercy today to set up an interview.😀 Anybody else get the call?

congratulation!

Ah! Congrats! stats? When'd you submit / get completed!
DAT: July
PA 20
QR 16
RC 22
Bio 19
GC 21
OC 21
TS 20
AA 20
Received a letter about 2 weeks ago asking for another LOR regarding my work w/dentist (probably didn't hurt that the dentist I work for went to UDM). Also, UDM requires 17+ in all areas, so I had to send a letter to state whether or not I was willing to retake DAT (note my QR score). In my letter I said I would consider retaking, but my calc I & II grades speak for my proficiency in that area.

so i guess its just michigan students who have gotten interviews so far or are there any out of state who also got the call??

nope i got one

I got the call from UDM on Thurs. 11-6, but they were not able to confirm the date that I chose (Nov. 14) and said they would call back. Didn't hear from them Fri. 11-7. Should I call Monday if I don't hear from them or will that appear pushy/bothersome?

I would call back on Monday. They are really nice and are also very good about getting back to students (usually). Its your interview!!! you have a right to schedule it!

yes, me too mine is for the 13th.. has anyone heard anything about how the interview will be conducted? that link for interview feedback on sdn has mostly old feedback...

my top choice is UDM, I wish I get an interview, these are my stats.
Bio 21, orgo 19, chem 17, reading 14, PAT 14, Math 12, GPA 3.6, lots of community service, I know that the nonsciences DAT are bad, but I am more than welling to retake, do you think there is hope for interview, im from MI.

Have you received anything at all from UDM? It seems like in the past couple weeks I've received about 5 or 6 letters on various topics. One of the comments that has been made throughout their info is that they want a score of 17+ in all areas. I hate to say it, but they may require that you retake DAT.🙁

Yes they have not sent me a letter by by talking to them on phone they said a retake is necc, but I was hoping for interview so I can relax a bit and study hard for the retake Im sure that interview will get me going!

i know they put strong emphasis on BIO and RC. your bio is really good, but your RC score may hold you back. I would definately retake and try to get a RC score of at least their recommendation of 17+. if you do retake, let them know. good luck

thanks for the people who reply, I am retaking for sure, but do you guys think that late jan. is too late?

if you notified them the retake that's not too late at all. Last year, the student president mentioned that she retook the DAT in the January to get her spot at UDM, so you have nothing to worry about. It's still very early for UDM so no worries.

I don't know what my situation is with UDM either, I might have to retake if it is mendatory for the spot. Good luck!

the reason im worried is that the people that take the DAT like late in Jan. and get accepted are the ones who interview and were requested to take the DAT to get accepted, me no interview up to date?

If you don't receive an interview from them, you can ask them to put you on hold until they receive your new DAT scores. That way, they will re-review your file in Jan.

yeah that is the only way, thanks alot for your help and wish you the best!

So I just got an email that was sent at 5:08pm today requesting an interview from UDM. Kind of strange timing but I am pretty pumped! 🙂

every time i call them to try and schedule an interview nobody picks up.

Had my interview at UDM and it went well (tour first and then interview). It was very different than UofMich or Indiana. I was the only person on the tour and I was interviewed by one person. It wasn't stressful, but it could be a difficult situation if you didn't hit it off with the one interviewer. It was nice touch when they have you try on a lab coat and ask you what name you would like embroidered on it.

That sounds great! I really hope to interview there.

Same problem. Their voicemail is like 10 minutes long too. I left message at like 3 on Monday and they didn't return my call??? Not a very smart way to go about inviting people to interviews if you ask me... reflects quite poorly on the school.

I called them all day yesterday not getting through once. Just called again this morning and the secretary said that they will start returning calls today after 1 (the person who schedules is in a meeting until then)

I called in Monday morning and scheduled my interview for tomorrow, 11/19, I am assuming they are getting swamped with calls.

I am not even sure how many they can interview before Dec. 1st.

Good luck guys!

Anybody have any idea how many spots are filled on 12-1? I don't think many interviews have been conducted. I know that they make calls on 12-1, but I'm curious about the number.

I called today b/c I had to reschedule and the lady said that they don't fill the class on dec 1. So if you are after dec 1 you still have a good chance of acceptance.

so they do accept people dec. 1st? or they dont?😕

They do, but they don't accept enough to fill all the spots (i.e. if you are post dec 1 you are not just interviewing for an alternate)

just got back from UDM.. wow.. their new facility is bananas!!!!

don't worry about not getting the pre-dec interview for udm, they will fill some spots by dec. 1st but not even close to full.

I've had 3 interviews, Indiana, UofMich, and UDM. I would say that if by some miracle all three were to accept me, I would pick UDM. Great facility and awesome clinical opportunities. Did you walk away with the feeling that most pre Dec interviews would get accepted (providing something absolutely crazy didn't happen at the interview)?

I hope so, the interview itself was very low stress and it went great.

Hopefully we'll hear back by Dec. 1st. I am off to U of M this Friday so I will see the differences between the two schools. But the new facility was impressive...

Be sure to post your impression compared to UDM. I guess I'm just more interested in clinical work than the research that UofM stresses.

i think umich does a lot of outreach to make sure there are more clinical opportunities.

Umich def gives you lots of opportunities to get a lot of clinical practice. True they have better grad programs than udm which tend to steal patients, but there are ample opportunities in the school, through community outreach, and through outreach abroad. Also, uofm is by far more respected than udm both instate and out of state, gives you more research opportunities (if that's something you're into), and with boards potentially going pass/fail you need that big name if you're looking to specialize. The other benifits include not living in the D, safety, great bar scene, etc...

udm has some perks but overall ufom trumps udm.

both of them have diff qualites but overall are both great. i hope i get accepted to one if not both! and i hope i find out soon because waiting is no fun haha!

Does anyone know that if you have a pre-december 1st interview if that means your chances of getting accepted to U of D are really high? Because I don't think they interview that many people before dec. 1st. Just curious on any stats with that....

It depends on your interview. If that goes well, you are most likely to hear good news before Christmas.

You have to remember that the interviews are very important, especially at UDM since it's one-on-one based, you need to hit it off with your interviewer to leave a positive impression.

good news... they return voicemails. I called and left a message monday and they called me back to schedule the interview today. They basically let you choose any day which is nice with exams coming up. I just said a date I wanted and she said yup that'll work. GL everyone

Is that why the day I interviewed at UDM they had about 20 Umich students there RETAKING the clinical portion of the boards? They didn't have the clinical exposure to pass the first time. UDM had few, if any, repeats on the clinical portion. Just a thought.

If being at a research institution is all that matters to you, and it has absolutely NO bearing on the majority of students, then go to U of M. Most people don't want to do research, especially after actually being in dental school and seeing how difficult it really is.

If you are lucky enought to get accepted to both schools and money isn't an option, I say UDM. If money is an option, then U of M if you are a resident. People say money isn't the issue, but an extra $1000 in your pocket each month will really be nice when you graduate.

You will be a great dentist regardless the school. I would look more at cost and culture than "research". 👍

Whichever school you look at there will always be slackers that do the bare minimum. If you want clinical experience you can get just as many cases at uofm as udm. The difference then is like you said cost, culture, and I would add prestige of school.

For in state uofm is cheaper, a lot cheaper. Uofm is in ann arbor, not Detroit, don't have to worry about leaving campus before dark. UofM is a prestigious university it will be much easier going for a specialty coming from uofm.

I wasn't focusing on research, it's just an added bonus. Something that udm doesn't have.

alright just got back from U of M.

Research is off the hook.... can't say much more about it, it's amazing.

The interview was quite intense with 30 us in there and 30 of the interviewers all lined up for questions but it was very exciting and the questions weren't so bad.

Overall, it was a pretty sweet experience.

Good luck to yall who ever is visiting there soon.

Okay, so when (notice I didn't say if) you get the call from UofM and UDM, which will it be?!😀

I'll tell you when I have those two letters in my hands. 😀

As of now, nothing is decided...

How about you?

how was the udm interview? I have it in a couple of weeks. I heard it was more intense than uofm, one on one with an adcom. Any pointers?

It's laid back. They have a set of questions that they ask you but you still get a chance to ask a lot of questions and discuss about your interests and concerns.

U of M's interview is def. much more intense compared the udm's interview. You will probably talk more than an hour for udm's interview, but remember since it is one on one you do need to be on the same page with the interviewer.

Good luck!
