I have a mid-January interview at Mercy. So, to those familiar with UDM admissions, is this one of the schools where late interviews still give you a good shot at acceptance?

lets just say... I have never heard of anyone getting an official rejection after the interview (they either accept or wait-list you)

Well that's good to hear. Although they only accept like 30% after the interview right? So a wait-listing could very well be a rejection. Guess I'll just have to hope for the best.

no... they usually only interview like 150-200 people per cycle... pretty much everyone will get either an offer or wait-list until spot opens up....

How are post December interviewers notified of acceptance? Do they send email, snail mail, call, or update on aadsas?

I also just got a waitlist letter and letter of continued interest in the alternate position. Does anyone have any info on my chances of getting a spot? I hear things are a bit different with the new Dean and all. Thanks!

So, I have a deposit due date coming up that I am not looking forward to. Does anyone with a semi-recent interview know about how many days Detroit Mercy has been taking to get back to interviewees? I can safely assume that it will be more than 4 days right?

I interviewed with them on December 2nd and receiced my alternate candidate notification on December 19th

Thanks for the input. That's about the timeline I gathered from predents. Obviously I had to break down and drop the $1000 deposit to hold a spot at my safety school. Sucks though.

Good luck to both of us 👍 (assuming you want to go to Mercy).

Hello all,

I just got the invitation for interview through aadsas. Super excited this is my first interview and I am from Canada. I would really appreciate any help in terms of how to prepare myself for the interview and also any suggestion about where should I stay?
Thank you so much 🙂)

Its mostly a numbers game post-dec1 but I recommend hitting up the 2016 UDM facebook page and asking those accepted. For what it's worth 4yrs ago the interview was very laid-back. Check interview feedback at sdn.

Contrats to you happiness!! First of all make sure you call and schedule! Or you can choose to wait for your interview package to come, but I don't see why you wouldn't want to schedule asap lol. I actually just interviewed there today 🙂 It was an 1-on-1 interview for an hour followed by a 30-min tour of the building. As for the actual interview portion, just be prepared to talk about yourself, what you put on your application, passion/reason for dentistry, all the general stuff. My interviewer really did read my app inside out and was commenting on details, and it felt like a pleasant getting-to-know-you chatting session. Be relaxed and be yourself and you'll be just fine. OH and they asked you to try on a white coat for fitting while you wait for your interviewer, which was an exciting 2-minutes. If you have the pre-interview package they snail-mailed you, there are hotel info inside, and the rate they offer really cuts down a lot!! So definitely use them. Driving there is probably the easiest and about the only way you can get there, unfortunately... Anyways hope this is helpful, and best of luck to you!!

Thank you so much for your help and comments. It definitely helps me a lot. Trying the White Coat seems very exciting. 🙂))))) can't wait.I will call them tom morning 🙂))

Not at all, My GPA: 3.45 . AA:20 PAT:19 RC: 16 🙁 Carving 25
My interview is in 10 days any other feedback how to be prepare would be great 🙂)

Wow, good thing I checked my aadsas. Just found out I was invited for an interview. Anyone know when the soonest dates are?

@happiness, congrats on your interview...i am also Canadian and just wrote the nov dat as well, may i ask if your from eastern or western Canada, i am wondering if schools have received my nov dat scores?

When were your applications received by UDM?

They received my application at the end of Aug , but it was incomplete . I submit my DAT late December.

PS: I haven't received the package for interview, but I want to book my flight and hotel since my interview is on Feb 2nd. So any suggestion where should I stay ?

Thank you so much 🙂))

As an alternate candidate for UDM, I'm wondering if it is a good or bad thing for me, seeing that they are giving out more interviews even though the class is basically full and take only 50 people on the waiting. Any insight on this from current UDM students, who were also waitlisted would be truly appreciated.

Well more interview candidates is not a good thing, but since you interviewed before a lot of the people that are going to still it means your stats are most likely better theirs, which therefore gives you a better chance of getting off the waitlist.

Thanks, I appreciate the positive feedback. It's been nothing but worrying since this whole thing started back with the DAT, just waiting to get this over with. How is dental school going for you so far?

I know how you feel, it's a long but rewarding process. I cannot wait to be done!!!! Good luck

Does anyone know how many seats are still available at UDM? How many people they are expecting to interview in the upcoming weeks/months? How long they will be interviewing for?

I was accepted to UDM on December 1. The facebook group only has 27 people out of the class of about 100... so there may be hope???

Good luck! hope you guys make it!

i was accepted and my recomendation, is be honest and forthcoming, but dont ramble.. Stay for the tour and ask your interviewer if you can shadow some doctors on the floor... i did that and ended up staying till they closed the clinic, and in the process was introduced and talked to all of the teachers who are basically the people that will vote on you afterwards... network!!!!

I phoned the lady last week, and she said they're conducting interviews throughout February but is not sure about March. That indicates to me that their class size is almost full which kind of surprised me since UDM in previous years held interviews until April or May. I guess this year they changed a lot of things under the direction of the new director of dental admissions, Dr. Jeffers.

Does anyone know how long the interview takes? If my interview is at 2, can I make a 630 flight?

Interview + School tour takes roughly 2 hours. I'm not totally familiar with how traffic works around the Detroit area, but I think you should be fine. For reference, my interview was from 11-1, and I arrived at the airport before 2 (no traffic). This includes turning in my car and taking the airport shuttle.

Can any of the late applicants possibly post when their application was received along with their statistics. Thank you in advance !

Interviewed on Jan 17th, and my AADSAS was changed to wait-list today. Kinda dissapointed since my interviewer gave me a really positive respond and said I was in... but I read about this happening to others so I was at least mentally prepared lol. Good luck to the rest of you!

You know, a lot of forum posts I read kind of gave the impression that if you get an interview with UDM, then it's very highly likely that you'll be accepted, but I don't see that being accurate. Everyone I've seen says they have been wait listed. I suppose that could be true for pre Dec interviews, or maybe it's due to the new person in charge of admissions.

I think it's true for pre december interviews, from predents a majority of the people that got accepted had pre-december interviews. I think UDM only interviews 1-2 people a day (correct me if I am wrong) and if they started interviewing the last week of september then at most 90 people would have interviewed by dec 1st. About 2/3 of the class is from Michigan and 1/3 is OOS. A good chunk of the michigan interviewees will accept Umich because it is cheaper for most of them, some will accept UDM. Assuming that a majority of OOS get into their state school then I am guesstimating that about 70% of the class ( of 2/3 from the michigan applicants) is full and about 15 OOS students have taken the 1/3 that is reserved for them in the class. Including the info that quite a few people are on the waitlist I would assume 65-70% of the class is full. Just guessin.

At my interview in October there were 5 of us, and a lady told us that 3 more had afternoon interviews. So the 1-2 interviews a day isnt necessarily true.

I believe they do at most 3 interviews in the morning and 3 more in the afternoon, so there could be up to 6 interviews a day. I just called the school, and what they told me is that they have offered all the seats and are waiting for those people's decisions before they can make anymore offers. So my guess is that every interview from now on are just going to be waitlisted...? Not a very positive thing to hear D:

so what happened after the interview? u hear back yet?

Hey guys! Im in the same boat here. I was interviewed Jan 20th and Waitlisted Jan 26th. Did they just start wait listing now? Maybe that means were at the top of the list...

I heard that dr Jeffers said any interviews have been for the waitlist for a long time now. Udm accepts and fills their class quickly. They know what they are doing and wouldn't give out a lot of interviews that don't have good odds to get in (reminder 60% of the acceptance relies on the interview portion). A lot of people accepted, including myself, are waiting on other schools so be patient and I'm sure things will work out great!!

Basically, idk if they even know the exact date to when they will interview. Guessing until end of Feb / early March. The LAST date anyone can hold multiple acceptances without being dropped is APRIL 1ST (new as of this year). This will speed up the process a bit over last years May 1st deadline. So, if they want to hold more interviews than they will invite randomly as needed up until the very end. I was told that a large majority of those accepted will go. Most are michigan residents and detroit mercy is a great dental school, so not many will turn it down since will be their first choice. Some will wait it out until April 1st (rude in my opinion), others simply are waiting to hear back from our top choice (like myself).

fyi all candidates accepted after Fed 1st have 15 days to respond now; should also speed things up

Anyone get off the waiting list yet?
