Is there any true evidence that psychiatrists or child psychiatrists tend to diagnose and treat their own kids with psychotropic medications? I am interested in pursuing child and adolscent psychiatry, but my long-term girlfriend (and potential future wife) is scared that I'll end up screwing up all my kids when I diagnose them when they are clearly normal kids. I made it clear that I will not diagnose my own kids, and if need be would prefer to send them to another psychiatrist rather than myself. Have any of you heard stories about psychiatrists' own kids, or is my girlfriend totally overexaggerating?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

That one.

Right. Child psychiatrists only diagnose the children of your friends and family, usually using incredulous tones in the car on the way home from a social gathering - but they never treat them. 😉

Which explains why I never take MY kids out in public, especially if my colleagues are going to be there! 😱

(Hey Sazi--where are those Flintstoned Chewable Valiums I ordered?)

They're not off patent yet. You'll have to wait another 18 years.
