So I just posted this over on the Ohio thread, then realized it may be better to let other peoples see it in case anyone else knows:

Anyways, more than one thread is starting to say that AAMC changed the date to the 18th for some reason - yet other schools (like Umich and Temple) have already announced. Does anyone have a source for this 18th rumor? I tried surfing around the AAMC site and couldn't find it, but it isn't the most user-friendly system around - it has all the information except what I happen to be looking for.

Also, just curious, does anyone know why AAMC makes schools wait for an arbitrary date to announce? It seems to me it is counterproductive to do so, as allowing schools to announce earlier would have some students dropping out of the system earlier as they are accepted into their #1 choice earlier...

no.

schools are not bound by the traffic rules in any case, as people who were accepted today to Chicago, Michigan, Buffalo, Temple, Tulane, and any number of other places could tell you.

the reason for the October 15th rule is that, at some point in the past, medical schools were engaged in an admissions arms race, reaching further and further back into the calendar in attempts to catch the most desirable candidates. The rule was meant to put a stop to that. it may also have something to do with EDP stuff, i don't know.

I have aamc email to admissions officers saying that schools that notify people electronically should, in order to preserve the "spirit of rule 3" (the 10/15 rule), notify people as early as the 16th, sometime over the weekend, or on Monday.

You can believe who you want, though, if it makes you feel better.

I was notified early this morning. It's up to each school individually. Some schools (like uC-Davis) likely didn't want to deal with a weekend release, so they postponed it until Monday.

Myuu, your avatar was hypnotic on my slow laptop, but on a faster computer it makes me dizzy. I think you win the prize for best attention grabbing avatar.
