hi,

I sent my transcript on June 17th and when I go to my amcas application to check my status it says that they haven't yet received it yet. Last week I called them and after a nice 20 minutes on hold a nice lady told me that they are updating all of the transcipts that they received on June 23rd. This doesn't mean that they are varifying the transcipts against your amcas application, oh no, this only means that they have a huge stock-pile of transcripts in an office somewhere in DC and 2 old ladies are looking through each one to connect it to a name on an application. Then maybe they will actually start varifying the damn thing.

I would think that from the millions of dollars that AAMC is making of people who are applying to med school, they could make this process of applying much faster and more efficient.

i was worried about the same thing.... my transcript was mailed out on june 20th but they still say that they have not received it

i called last thursday and the woman i spoke with said that it takes about 10 business days to get it in the computer that they have received it (so about 14 business days from the day it was actually mailed from the registrars office)

who knows how long after that it will take for them to verify

Don't worry too much about it. The exact same thing happened to me last year. It takes them forever to acknowledge that they have the transcript at their office. The annoying thing is that your application is in line to be verified based on when they have all of your materials, not based on when you submit, so there is some delay if you didn't send in your transcript in advance.

Just a word of caution, in 2002, I sent my Berkeley transcripts four times to AMCAS and were never received. The "nice and competent specialists" at AMCAS told me that they have yet to update a batch they got from last week, and it turned out to be complete lies (they are trained to say these things). I got into a fight with the Berkeley registrar because I didn't believe those transcripts were sent. It turned that all four of my transcripts were signed for by AMCAS mail room people, and yet they managed to lose my transcripts four times. So I asked the Berkeley people to send the last transcript via UPS special delivery which costed me 30 some bucks, and finally after 4 days, it was finally deemed as "received by AMCAS." I am not trying to scare you all; just to let you know that AMCAS are completely irresponsible. Getting through AMCAS is one of the obstacles en route to become a physician.

Yeah, I'd give the same caution as well. When I sent mine last year (undergrad and grad) AMCAS sent me 4 conflicting messages telling me that all my transcripts were there, none were, and every combination in between. These all came within minutes. I then had to resend my grad transcripts twice for them to finally receive them.

On an up note: My last remaining transcript was sent on June 20th. I called on July 3rd, and they gave me the stock "it takes about 10 business days" answer. By the end of the day I got an email saying it was received and my status on AMCAS was changed to active.

if amcas tells me that they have all of my transcripts, which they have, should I believe them? shall i call to make them verify this by pulling my file and checking with live eyes?

so i read some of the replies to this thread and got super paranoid that my transcript was lost by amcas. i checked my email at about 11:00 and saw that my transcript still was not received. I went to the registrars and ordered an overnight deliver of one for 30 bux! right after I came back to my apt, i see in my inbox an email from amcas saying that they received my transcript that i had sent about 2 weeks ago! SUUUUUUUUUX!!!!

The paranoia is getting to me too. The registrar's office says they sent out my transcript on the 25th but AMCAS is still denying everything. I think I might want to overnight a second copy to them, but now that I've already submitted my AMCAS, I can't access the section on printing out another transcript cover letter. Is there a way to print out another copy, or do I just send one out and hope it finds its way? (Oh yeah, I'm on hold with AAMC right now, but I have a feeling the forum will give me a reply before anyone picks up there 😛 )

If you don't have the official transcript request just make sure that the transcript is forwarded with your amcas number on it. Otherwise it might dissappear into the void.

ok my amacas app status is active; I've received email confirmations that they have all 3 of my transcripts...

YET on my login page it only shows two. This worries me that somehow they lost one of my transcripts after they got it. Anyone ever see this?

I've been trying to get an answer from them for literally two weeks sending email after email but every time I get a generic reply (even after I mark it NO GENERIC REPLY). I swear, they must have one mentally ******ed baboon working there. Also I've waited on hold long distance three times and gave up after 45 minutes, 1 hour, 1 hour fifteen minutes.

Man...

I already submitted and they have my transcript from my university, i've got that acknowledged but it says Application STATUS on HOLD due to "supporting documents" what the heck else are we supposed to send them?? I thought it was just transcripts and then just submit the AMCAS app itself.

echostation,

I had the same problem. My transcripts were received in early June but when I submitted my AMCAS application on Saturday, I was put on hold pending "Supporting Docs." I called AMCAS today and was told that there was a computer glitch or overload and everyone who submitted between June 27 and today would get this erroneous "hold" message. The guy said that it should be worked out by Thursday. At that time your status should be correctly updated. He also said that you won't lose your position in line, meaning that everyone's applications will still be verified in the order that they arrived.

I hope he knew what he was talking about.

Well, see I called AMCAS today and whoever answered today told me that there was no "order" which really ticks me off. She said that "oh we do not verify by order of date submitted..." so how in the heck do they verify? based on freaking last name...? WTF? I submitted on the 25th of June, became active on the 26th and I am still active, and yeah they do have all my transcripts since the first of June.

Vaccine,

aamc is lying. I submitted on July 1 and mine is not holding, it went to active immediately.

In my experience they have no idea what they are talking about and will make up anything to get you off the phone or to answer an email.

If you do not have that AMCAS sheet attached to the transcript, it will probably be okay if your transcript have the Social Security Number clearly printed on the top by your Registrar, next to your name. Those "diligent" and "competent" "specialists" probably only scan your transcript briefly, and if they cannot find that SSN number quickly, or if there involves an effort to located that SSN number among your other numbers on the transcript, they will probably send it aside and move on. My school's transcript had my student ID number printed on the top and the SSN was buried somewhere down at the bottom, which therefore was probably used to wrap fried chickens in their AMCAS office.

How do you verify receipt of transcripts with AMCAS?

I have looked through my incomplete application and their help (not!) topics and cannot find it.

I don't know if AAMC will ever "receive" my transcript. My school registrar says they sent it to them on June 25, so it has probably been there since at least July 1. Then yesterday out of paranoia I fedex'd another transcript to them (priority overnight, 1030 AM delivery, the whole 9 yards). Now R.Williams down at the AAMC has my transcript, but they still won't ackgnowledge they have it. I wonder how many I'll have to flood them with before they finally put one in my file. Man, that's kinda funny, the thought of sending them 5000 copies of my transcript. Maybe they'd verify it too right then and there as well, or probably it'd just piss them off and they'd move mine to the bottom of the pile 😛

Ok so somebody tell me why on the internet they don't post a number to call the AMCAS people. I have gone through the MCAT people 6 times I think they are getting annoyed for having to transfer me. I have had 3 transcripts overnighted, 3 weeks ago and guess what, still not received. Is anyone else ready to give up med school and apply at the AMCAS office, because surely I can move up the in the administration ranks... I actually do work!!!

A while ago (like a few years ago), an accepted Sdner wrote that she hated (the word is more like abhor) everyone at AMCAS, even the people who sweep floors there at night... Now after went through the whole AMCAS thing last year, I think her comment wasn't an over-statement.

That's interesting. Odd though that it's not posted anywhere on the AMCAS website. It might make sense though, I submitted my application on the 25th, but my transcripts wouldn't have arrived until the 27th or later. Pfffft, at one point I thought it was a pain in the butt that Columbia and NYU used their own application, but right now it seems like they may be the only ones who actually ever get a timely and completed application 🙄

For me, it took anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks for my transcripts to get posted. That's AFTER they arrived at AMCAS. So hang in there...

The number to call is posted under the Help menu at the top of the page.

The automated call system is even more behind than the website, BTW.

Don't freak out about the "hold" thing until necessary.

I sent 3 transcripts and got messages that each had been received. But when I submitted my app, it went on "hold" for "supporting docs" and they only listed 2 of my transcripts as received. I started to freak out and then went on holiday.

Then, within 2 weeks, the whole thing was processed and verified, perfectly.

Has anyone sent a transcript which AMCAS received before July 1st that has not yet been entered into the system?? My seems to be taking forever.
