The postbaccalaureate programs are designed to help those who did not get accepted to med/dent school get in. It's either a certificate program or a masters program that lasts for a year or two. You get much better chances or automatic acceptance to the med/dent schools.

Yes...if you make A's and B's for the year, you have a guaranteed or almost guaranteed spot for the next year.

NSU and LLU. I heard it from other posts. The deadlines for both schools are over though so if you don't get in for the 2006 school year, you may consider doing a postbac.

VCU also has one its called the D1/2 (instead of D1 or D2, etc) program or something like that...you have to take a bunch of advanced sciences (with the dental students) and do fairly well...I would say there are no automatic acceptances from VCU unless you do very well...however it sure would open up doors to other schools. The fact that you could not only get into the program, but then get decent grades in classes that you will encounter in dental school shows that you are and will be a good student. I know at Nova if you get all A's you can pass out of the classes and dont have to take it again even though you will still be a first year (not 100% on all the details)...they only take ABOUT 5 people out of 20-30 students who will go on to dental school...the rest are pre-meds and will eventually get into NOVA's med school. I think you cannot get lower than a B in any class and have to officially interview there...but if you satisfy those requirements...you have an acceptance. FYI...a post-bacc isnt always for those who didnt get in...it can also be for those who have no science background or want to take upper level science coursework in an organized program.

Ian seriously this is your 5th time applying...how do you not know these things by now? DAMN you sure know how to waste money. Are you just not that observant? If you want to know information badly enough call the schools and ask.

Id love some info on this program (VCU)

I guess this only works if you apply to the dental school and don't get in...

Q: What is the D.5 program that I have heard about?

A: The D.5 program was initiated about 14 years ago for students who had made an application to dental school, but were not successful in gaining admission. Some of these applicants showed great potential towards being a dentist. However, certain factors, such as lower GPA, weaker DAT scores, many years without taking college courses, and other factors, negated them from being a viable candidate. This program was created to have these applicants take certain selected science courses with the freshman dental class. The purpose was to have them prove their ability to succeed in professional school courses. Five science courses, Dental Biochemistry, Dental Genetics, Dental Microbiology, Dental Physiology and Evidence-Based Dentistry were selected. The strict requirement for success is a mandatory minimum of “B” in each course. If this is achieved, then the prospective student would have a greater potential of being accepted into the following year's freshman class and they would also be exempt from these five courses. However, if a grade of lower than “B” was achieved in any of these courses, then they would not be considered for entrance into the new freshman class. The students selected for the D.5 program usually have strong science backgrounds, excellent interpersonal skills, and dental experiences.

Note: The Dean for Admissions and the Admissions Committee select D.5 candidates from the pool of interviewed applicants.

I looked into the postbac program at LLU. It is a certificate, 1 year program that you "can" extend to a Masters degree. The requirements are a GRE score, or MCAT of no section less than 6, or DAT score of no section less than 15. The clincher is that your undergrad. GPA must be 3.0 or above to qualify. Mine is just below so I didn't even consider applying. Also, Im not sure when the deadline is for applications.

The deadline was May 15

I looked into that as well, but the thing is if you have a 3.0 sci-gpa, then i think that if you have other credentials you could get into some lower-stat schools. The people that really need the post-bacc programs like that are usually 2.7ish range I would think. So it seems like that min gpa of 3.0 would be more for pre-meds, but it looks like it applies to both, interestingly enough. Plus they only have like 5 spots, so taking into account that your not SDA, it's doubtful that you'll get in. I'm not trying to be negative, but that's the way it is.
