So I chose to go to George Mason U over UVirginia because I got a full-ride from GMU.

BUT, I was looking at statistics and only 43 students from GMU got into Medical School last year, out of 83 applicants, and only 5 out of 15 undergrads got in, aren't those horrible stats?!

Am I doomed??!?!

wtf? no! name DOES NOT matter!!!!

Take your major and get a ballin' GPA and do a bunch of extracurriculars to make yourself competitive for medical school.

One thing I've learned, the ONLY way to get into medical school is through HARD work.

(Unless daddy moneybags drops a donation at a school and you slide in through that...)

Lol what's the point of saying you ARE doomed right after you made your decision =P Be fortunate you got your full ride and good luck!

1) Name of your school doesn't matter.

2) 43 out of 83 applicants is a %51 acceptance rate, which is higher than the national average of %45. Obviously a sample size of 83 applicants won't tell much but at least you know that you are not doomed.

I can still transferrr!!!

Don't worry about statistics. Get the most out of your undergrad experience including academics and EC's, try and prepare for the MCAT as best as you can, get in shadowing, research and clinical experiences, and you'll be good.

Med schools do not discriminate applicants based off of where they go (unless you go to an ivy league...then you might be looked at slightly more favorably).

Good luck and take that free ride!! 👍

YOU decide your future - not the name of your undergrad school.
Take the full ride! Trust me, when you start paying for medical school (at the tune of a quarter million bucks) you'll be glad you did.

50% acceptance rate from a University?! Isn't that....high? I know my undergrad didn't have that high of a success rate. And don't let numbers from an undergrad decide your fate. Getting into Med School is dependent on how YOU perform, not everyone else. Good gpa, good MCAT, good ECs = acceptance.

The lower the undergrad schools success rate = the weaker the student body is overall, meaning it will be easier for you to get a higher gpa...

without question you made the right choice. -0- tuition is a beautiful thing.

Doesn't UVA have a program that ensures virtually no cost? *shrugs*

I'll echo what the others have said... whether or not you get into medical school is based on your application, not the school you came from. Just don't sit around and expect things to be handed to you on a silver platter and you shouldn't have too much trouble.

You made the wrong decision.

/only because GMU (and the entire DC area) is overrun by obnoxious PoliSci majors. Get away before you end up stabbing your roommate when he/she insists for the 15th time that the world would be better off if we all emulated Atlas Shrugged.

haha even if there are a lot of PoliSci majors, they probably sucked butt in highschool, GMU students, at least the ones not on substantial scholarships, aren't the brightest kids. Besides I'm rooming with my best friend, and she's an engineering major, so I don't think I'll have to deal with that!

Thanks for all the advice guys! I actually met with a Pre-Health Advisor at Mason, and they assured me that all the applicants that had applied last year had a median GPA of 3.3~, something that I plan to do a little better than.

And yeah, I'm just going to focus on studying and stuff and if it's really meant to happen, it hopefully will 🙂
