Hey,

So I took the January MCAT because I'm applying this summer. I'm currently in the middle of my AMCAS app and have NOT submitted anything yet, but yesterday I got an email from the Medical College of Wisconsin telling me that they received my MCAT scores...

"The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) recently received, from the AAMC, your MCAT results from the 2009 January test dates. We are very pleased that you are considering pursuing a medical education. Allow me to briefly introduce to the Medical College of Wisconsin."

Now, when I was registering for the MCAT I know I didn't select any med schools to automatically receive my scores, and since I haven't submitted anything in AMCAS or haven't even selected my schools for AMCAS, I don't know where MCW would've gotten this info. Furthermore, I'm definitely NOT applying to MCW, so there's no way I would've ever selected it for anything... is this an email that many people have gotten? If not, what happened? And did my scores get sent out to other schools too? I'm just a little confused about this email...

no replies? sadness 🙁

well let me ask this then: is there an option when registering for the MCAT to allow your scores to be seen by med schools if they so inquire?

I feel you buddy. I think everyone is busy studying these days 🙂

That is strange. I think you should call the AAMC and figure out what happened, because they're not allowed to send out your scores like that. I'm thinking you got that e-mail in error, though. Check back with the school.

Hey, I'm going to MCW, cool!

I'm really not sure how that would happen. I think the most likely scenario is that you got the wrong e-mail (ie, they meant to send you one that sort of told you about the school, which they also send to people that have sent them your scores, and you got the one with the wrong intro or something). I agree with above, nobody gets your scores until you release them via AMCAS. I would assume it's just an error, but I might shoot AAMC an e-mail confirming they didn't release any scores yet.

"Officially" schools are not supposed to know till you release them. But they know. Some try to encourage those who did well to apply to there. You must have done well on the mcat to get that email. Washington U in St Louis is notorious for phishing for high mcat applicants.

I received that exact same email from Wisconsin, along with a few others like UWash in St.Louis and UAlabama. I was wondering if perhaps there was a check box that said we released scores on the exam (I could easily see myself just checking it and moving on to the post-MCAT drink fest). But if you go onto the AAMC score report, it mentions that the scores are automatically released, so maybe thats just standard procedure these days.

Yeah, I mean I don't really mind or anything, but I'd just like to know if I inadvertently checked some box.
